Cleaning head gasket

I just recently installed a head gasket using copper coat and had to tear it down again. I wanted to know what is the best chemical or process to remove the copper coat residue since it"s tacky now and has some embedded dirt/dust and wanted to start over again. Thanks for any help.

Spray carburetor cleaner works GREAT. (The kind that causes cancer in California is the BEST.)

Protect painted surfaces from overspray.

If the head has been toruqed down you might as well replace the gasket. The gasket conforms to the head and block and when you replace it you will never get it in the exact same place again. Good chance it will leak and you will just have to do the job again.
