My daughters car is losing anti-freeze into the oil pan. It's the V6 with just 49,000 miles on it. I haven't torn into yet. I know it could be cracked head and/or block, head gasket, intake manifold gasket. What's the most likely cause with this engine?

I had a intake manifold gasket leaking coolant into the oil on a GM 3.1 V-6. someone at the time told me it wasnt all that uncommon

The wife have a 99 Olds Cutlass with the same 3.1 V6 in it. It goes in Wednesday for its second time in 6 months. The first time the intake manifold gasket was replaced. Suspect the same thing this time around. Per the dealer's service manager it is fairly common for that engine. Of course, this car has 96K miles on it and it still gets 39 mpg on the highway. Wife loves it!

Lower intake gaskets.Go to Napa or Carquest and ask for the "Problem Solver" gasket set that has metal in it.The original style is made of plastic and gives out prematurely.

I recommend replacing the oil pump drive o-ring also.Well known to leak oil to outside of engine and takes another 5 minutes with intake off.

Never heard of that. I have both a 1996 Ciera(185,000 mile) and a 1994 Ciera (230,000 mile) with the 3.1 engine and have had neither of them getting coolant in the oil. What I have had problems with is the head gaskets on both starting to leak exaust gas out into the radiator and would forse the coolant out of the coolant recovery bottle and then the radiator would get low and an would heat.
