Wheel Weight attach bolts

Was wondering if anyone knew of a source for the square head bolts used to hold on rear wheel weights? The last ones I bought from Deere were $8 a piece, it just doesn't seem a 5/8ths bolt should cost 8 bucks. I stopped at the hardware and they can't even get square headed bolts that large. Appreciate any ideas.

Buy 5/8 carriage bolts and use a big file or grinder to square off the heads. Have done this many times for wheel weights.

Well, Good luck getting them at Fastenall. I know they can get them, but you have to beg. They don't want to monkey with stuff like that. Maybe the guy was having a bad day

You need 5/8 sq head bolts? How long overall, and what length of thread from threaded end? I have several dozen here, both new and used.

McMaster-Carr has them but be sure to search for grade 5 like the JD bolts. Grade 2 will probably not hold.

The JD bolts also have a knurled shank so they stay in the wheel center or weight so you don't have to have more hands to push them in the holes in the weight while balancing the weight on your fingertips.

the bolts need to be at least 3, 3 1/2 would work. 2 inches of threads would probably be best but 1 1/2 should work. I don't need the knurled shank as the OEM had, I can hold them in the wheel to tighten.

Sorry you had a bad experience at Fastenal - -I got 8 new square-headed bolts from local Fastenal store in June, they were very helpful and professional.

Just acquired a pair of 1 piece 8N front wheel weights.

How many bolts, what size and grade are required to attach 1 piece front wheel weights?

Can someone tell or show me how they attach?

Never seen them on.
Thanks, Clem
