Locust thorns in Tires

B-I-L had some tires give to him that have Locust thorns in Them ,,, a while back this was a topic ,something about green slime and going tubeless , and saying a prayer ,, does anyone recall the remedy or know of the best way to get the rest of the feild miles out of these tires ,, thanx Jim

What kind of tires? Lot's of options, but in most cases the first thing to do would be to pull the thorns out. If tubeless, put a plug in the big ones, Slime for the rest. If tubed, then it's a no-brainer.....

We have locust thorns of epic proportions here. Slime brand tire sealer from TSC, Gemplers, etc and tubeless seems to work fine. I normally put about 16 ounces per 10.00L-16 tractor front or 12.50-16 skidloader tire.

BTDT and have found over the years the best by far is to buy a liner, its a thick piece of rubber that lays inside the tire. Install a tube because most tractor tires are tube type and do not hold air well if they are. The liner moves as you drive the tractor and rubs the ends off the thorns and then you have a lot less flats. Yes slime in the tube will also help even more.

If the tires are tubless it's no problem. Like old said a liner works well in tube type. I have mounted tube type tire tubless if the rims are in good shape, but you have to make sure you keep plenty of pressure in them. I've never had much luck with slime in tube type tires but I put it in all of my tubless.

Yep got rain, last 2 days it rained and we got around 4 inches or so, which we did need badly. Funny thing is we have set records this year in the spring by large amounts of rain and then in Aug set another record as being one of the driest then this again set a record as far as rain fall in Sept. Just hope we get some good weather so I can maybe get in some more hay

J there is no good remedy for thorns in tires. You can use the liners, be warned they are a pain in the rear to install. If you do opt to use them make sure the edges of them are perfectly smooth. If they arn't they will wear a hole in your tube. If the liner slips or moves it will take your valve stems off. After fixing hundreds of tires with green slime in them I can tell you DO NOT waste your money. at best it will slow the leaks down.
