Massey 50 issues Engine

I have an old massey 50 circa 1957. continental wet sleeve gasoline engineI got it with the head off and finished it. It ran pretty good for a while but I guess when I had the heads off I should have put rings in it. It doesn't want to get down and grunt anymore, it smokes and looses ability to maintain speed...on the plus side it does not overheat at all.

Anyway, I am tired of working on it. What woulld be a reasonable price to pay someone to rebuild my engine?

Can it be rebuilt without pulling it from the tractor?

it can be rebuilt with out separating the engine from the trans as long as the crank doesn't need work..

Does it have and retain good oil pressure? I have done quick rebuilds where i just installed new sleeves and rings.. This will last a long time unless the pistons have a lot of wear on them..

(quoted from post at 09:58:22 09/01/08) So just honing the sleeve wont cut it?

The sleeves are tempered fairly hard.. Honing usually won't cut enough of the glaze out..

It can be done of course. It just takes a lot longer and may or may not seat the rings well.

I understand...Yeah, I guess the are hard... I have a few of them out of another engine. I didn't think of that, but being so thin that would have to be very hard to prevent warping.

Thanks.
