WHAT IS A GOOD EAR TAG THAT WIL HOLD THE #. WORKED MY COWS THIS SPRING AND NOW HAVE A BUNCH OF COWS WITH BLANK TAGS , NOT MUCH HELP NOW

Please take your caps lock off. It's very rude to type like that.

Make sure you buy the special paint marker to go with the tags. Go over your numbers with two coats of the marker.

I never could keep numbers on the hand written ones. You'll have to go with the pre numbered Y-Tex or similar.

I use the preprinted Allflex tags, last for years. I've seen ones in magazines that are multi layer. You cut the numbers with a dremel and the inner layer shows thru, never wear out.

I use either Alflex or YTex, both seem about the same, black on white lasts 5 years or so, black on other colors about 3 years. I used Alflex last time and I think I like them better, they appear to be lasting longer and not catching on as many things.

We use pre-numbered plastic tags on our sheep. Unfortunately, they only last a couple years. Find broken pieces in the pasture, and unidentified sheep roaming around!

I loose a few tags every year. Kinda agrivating when you have one with out a tag loose a calf or comit some other ofense and when you go to load them up you have 5 with out a tag and you are try'n to figure out which one needs to go. I have a buddy who raises registered cattle and has a tatoo gun. I tat all of them with thier number. They go through the gate 2 times a year any way so if one is missing a tag you can retag her with the same number.

Only thing I can think of that would be better is a brand.

Good luck.

Dave

We freeze branded for a long time........Angus/Angus cross; worked good; brands didn't show up as good on neighbor's polled Herefords. We used alcohol and dry ice; liquid nitrogen is better.

ritchey makes a tag that has one color sandwiched between a contrasting color. you engrave the name or number that you want on the tag with a dremel type tool. engraving them goes pretty fast. the name is always visible. i get the tags and grinding bit from valley vet supply in kansas.

D I D NOT KNOW THERE WERE TYPING POLICE HERE
DO U FEEL LIKE U WERE GEETING YELLED TO
POSSIBLY HE AS I DO FIND IT MUCH EASIER 4 MY OLD EYES 2 READ LARGER TYPE and not tiny baby printing,,ANY WAYS WE HAVE ALWAY USED ALLFLEX
ON THE FEEDERS AND CHANGED UP THE COLOR BETWEEN W/ORG/ HELPS SORTING GO ALOT QUICKER ;; WHITE/STEERS AND ORANGE 4 THE GALS ,,CANT HELP BUT LOSE A FEW TAGS
HELL EVEN THE RADIO TAGS STILL GET LOST ON A FEW EACH YEAR

I use sheep tags that have a number printted on one side and my phone number. They come in pairs so you have one on each side of the ear and small so they are not pulled off when feeding.

I use the Y-Tex and the Allflex tags. The pre-numbered ones last about 3 years then as I am running the cattle through the chute I put a hand markered tag to replace the old worn out. Use the tag markers, they are more like a paint pen then a felt marker, they won't last long. and double up on the application and they will last a long time.

I use Allflex tags on my cows. I find a fairly high turn over in tags. Cows eating out of bale feeders seems really hard on them unless you pull ALL the string off the bales. I also put a small metal ear tag on every cow. They last pretty much the cows lifetime and I can use that number later to see who she is if she loses her plastic tag. The metal ones are small enough though that the cow must be caught in the chute to read the metal tag.

Years ago I took Polaroid pix of all dairy heifers, tried to get the ear tag number in the picture. Bull calves had hand-printed ear tags with DOB. Now I would use the digital camera. Markings don't change with age.

OKAY LETS NOT YELL AT EACH OTHER. I see both points. If i can't read the type i just Hit ( Control +) as many times as necessary to read the type.
don't know if that works with all computers works for me and Firefox

Take care
