Farmall 400 TA

Im pretty sure that if it holds in the high side its not the TA Clutch. If its slipping in the low side, you will split it and spend about 700 dollars fixing it.

Thanks, it's slipping in the low side and that's what I was afraid of. I guess it's decision time.

A I&T manual will tell you how to rebuild the TA unit, or there is a TA repair video, but all they really tell you in the video is how to replace the rollers. I don't think fixing the TA is too expensive, but you need to split the tractor to do it.

I have an I&T manual and it shows needing a OTC socket to remove the TA Clutch, do you know if I actually need this and if I do, where do I find one?

I just disassembled the TA from a SMTA (same unit) and did not need any special tools.
The inner parts were worn too much for just a roller & seal replacement so bought a rebuilt unit.
Call Kevin Meier at 515-368-0533 to get accurate info on TA's. He works at the rebuild plant where the TA's are remanufactured. Great guy & willing to share info with fellow farmers & collectors.

You don't need that wrench CDH you can get in there with a hammer and screw driver and loosen the nut. There are 4 notches around the flywheel nut to hit on.
