I just bought a 1950 8N. There is a black knob on the lower right corner of the instumant panel. It is attached to a cable that enters the trans casting.
iy is stuck. what is it for? It doesn"t show in the manual

Follow the link that Rick posted for a lot of great info on Shermans and Ford Ns.
Most Shermans used a lever on the left side of the tractor. It was better than the cable.
Some guys have been able to adapt a truck PTO cable to work.
In the future I would ask Ford N questions on the N Board.
A lot of knowledge and camaraderie there.

Best looking Ford/mower combination I"ve ever seen- -style- -color - -wheels & tires- -etc.etc. It might make the Ford purists groan. But if you can take a basic unit and make it much, much better- - Why not?? It makes my efforts seem elementary.

thank you very much for the Sherman data. I plan to split my tractor this winter to install a new ring gear. That will give me the chance to loosen up the Sherman Any advice in that regard ? Nelson
