Brush Mower Blade

I have a question about a FORD brush mower and how the blade needs to be placed. The Blade is about 18 inches long and has a 4 inch L shaped blade at the end. I was told to install the blade with the L down, but it does not make sense. Any information will help or if anyone knows where a diagram can be found online.

L down or it will not cut and the sharp edge should face counter clock if it's a counter clock rotation

also your blade ends must be lower the the stump jumper pan. i see blades put on up side down all the time. guys come in mader then hel- because mower dom't cut and 99.99999% of the time it's up side down blades

How were the previous blades installed?

There were not blades on it when I got it, the blades were with it but not installed. That is why I am looking for advise. I have tried it both ways and it seems to cut, but I hear a noise once in a while like it is hitting something when the L is up. When the L is down, it cuts, but it does not seem to cut as well.
