CONSTANTINE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) -- An 85-year-old man from St. Joseph County has drowned after his tractor overturned into an irrigation reservoir.

Radio station WMSH reports Forest Hassenger of Constantine Township was clearing land on his tractor Sunday morning when he got too close to the reservoir's edge. The tractor tipped over, and he was trapped underneath it in the water.

Authorities recovered Hassenger's body Sunday afternoon.

My prayers go out to the family of this man. It never hurts to be extra carefull, sometimes I feel like I'm too carefull but maybe I'm not?

Don't believe age had anything to do with it. Probably just was too used to doing something and got caught this time. Complacency can get you as fast as anything. Sometimes familiarity can be our worst enemy like the people that get caught in a PTO shaft. (Done it this way all of my life). I had a worker that insisted on wearing long hair. He worked with belts and pulleys etc. until one day his hair caught in a pulley shaft. We found him alive the next day and he is now a paraplegic. NUff said Henry

My sympathy to the family. I also doubt that age is in the mix.
I am in the process of taking back my ditch bank from the wood chucks and I can see how easy it would be to miss an under ground den at the edge that a tractor tire could drop into. I had one cave in Saturday but I was a foot away from the edge of the steep bank. I had drove over the same place a dozen times and then it just caved in. I had a three point disk on so it was not a problem but if I would have had just a blade and closer to the edge it could have been.
