Belt squeking

My brother has an 03 chevy Truck with a 4.3 V6. The Truck is making a squeking noise from the belt area. Four or five months ago he replaced the belt to try to stop it. It did stop the squeaking until a few days ago. So he replaced the belt idler pulley it still did not stop. He then replaced the belt tensioner pulley it still did not stop. He put the old belt back on an it stopped for a while and started again. The nosie use to quiet after warmed up but not any more.

Has any one else had this problem and what did you do to solve it?

Thanks for the Help!

Make sure the belt is tight as required & not too tight .Then take a wet cake of Ivory soap & hold it on the belt as the engine is running . I even used some spray on belt lube for the squeak or squeal (whichever). HTH ! God bless, Ken

My wife's 93' Sedan DeVille has done this since it was just out of warranty. A new serpentine belt helps for a few months then it's back. Anymore I just give the belt a squirt with STP or some other belt dressing and everything is quiet sometimes for a month, sometimes longer. My daughter's 92' Eldorado with the same engine and belt has never had a problem. Must be a GM thing. My 89' F-150 never a sound, I have to remember to check the belt. Found it once paper thin and ready to snap. Always carry a spare.

Recently I carried my Ford Ranger V6 to the shop with the belt making noise. It had been making noise for some time. I assumed he would replace the belt. It has one belt that covers everything. When I told the mechanic the problem he went to his tool box and got a file and had me start the engine. He gently touched the file to the top of the belt and it stopped some noise. He then held it lightly to the underside and all noise stopped. It has been three months now and stil no noise.

Rough up the surface of the smooth idler pulley/s. Use 40 grit sandpaper/emery cloth or lightly file it . Make kinda a spiral on the surface side to side.

Some belts never do it, some do, even on like engines. Only other thing is to make sure the tensioner arm is straight.

Look at the power steering pully, it should be flush with the pump shaft. That will make them squeak.

Waterpump ---Chevy is notorious for bad waterpumps. I can't begin to count the pumps I have installed on chevy engines.

Check it out by pouring a little water on it,if the squeak stops you're home.Put some soap on the belt as mentioned below. But don't do it with the motor running, Hands are in short supply.

Check the alignment of the pulleys. SOmething may have shifted and the belt is rubbing more on one side than on the other. Alignment is decieving because it still works when pulleys are misaligned, but they are noisy.
