What Is This World Coming To ?

It was nice and hot here yesterday, so my 83 yo neighbor decided it would be a good day to get some of his mowing done. So, he gets his old Farmall Cub out of the shed and proceeds to mow till about 3:15 pm and runs out of fuel.
He goes to the shed and to get his 5 gal gas can and finds it empty. It was about 95 degrees out so he decides to go in the house and take a nap before undertaking getting fuel and going back out to get the tractor.
He woke up at about 8:30 pm and decided to eat dinner go back to bed, and put off getting fuel and the tractor till morning.
This AM, I get a call at the shop, could I please come home and help Cecil get his tractor back to the shed, no problem Cecil, I will be there in about 20 minutes.
Well, I get there and what do I see? Cecil's pride and joy Cub, laying flat on the ground with NO rear wheels and tires!
Some low life in the night has stolen his wheels and tires, just dumped it on the ground like it was a piece of garbage they were throwing out !
Un FRIGGING Believable !
I can't believe someone would do this to such a nice guy like Cecil. He is heartbroken, he has owned that Cub since new and its all he had left from his farm when he had to move down here due to his wifes health.
Pretty sad days we are living in.
Sorry for the long rant, but this is disturbing.
If any of you know where a reasonably priced set of usable rear tires are, let me know, I put an add in the classifieds.
I want to try and get his tractor back up on all fours for him as soon as I can find some that I can afford.
Looks like I will have some extra mowing to do till I can get him going again.
Thanks, Todd.

Glad to hear you're a good neighbor!

Some people think EVERYTHING is free for the taking.Low-life ba$tard$!

Until the criminals start getting punished it is only going to get worse. We need to change the attitude in this country so that the victim is the victim and the criminal is the criminal. Until then maybe start a collection like Lanse suggested to buy some new wheels, I,d send 20 bucks.

Thats cold. About like a few months ago the weekend I got married some one emptied my grand mother's diesel tank while we were all out of town. It's behind a barn, can't see it from the road. Who ever got it had to know it's there and that we are out of town. Coulda been any 3 of my tobacco hands. Which ever one it was got rid of it quick. I went by to see them as soon as I found it and none of them had barrels setting around or had any left in the bed of thier trucks.

The law will never do anything about something like this. When I called in to report it, all they said was if I found out who did it and could prove it to give'm a call.

Any low life ****'n piece of **** that would do some thing like that ain't scared to go to jail for a quick buck. We need to hear more on the news about some sack o' crap get'n a hole blown in him like the guy in Texas who shot the guy come'n out of his neigbor's house with a TV. Cut a few of these leaches in half with a shot gun and the long hairs will start get'n jobs.

Sorry, kinda hit a nerve there.

Good luck with his tires, my email open, shoot me a mail'n adress and I will try to send $10.

Dave

(quoted from post at 12:54:05 08/14/08) How bout we pass the hat and buy him some new wheels???
I appreciate the offer Lanse but I don't want something for nothing, then I would feel like the thief, LOL.
Just a fair price would make me happy to get him going again, Thanks again guys, I do appreciate your thoughts and moral support.

Are you guys way out in the boonies ? Seems like you guys have alot of trouble far out in the country.

i have felt for a long time if you murder somebody you should be hung no messing around for who knows how many years as the killer has "rights". what about the rights of person they killed?
when killer is hung all cons must attend and help build gallows then hung in prison yard.
maybe some want a be will have 2nd thoughts.
as for someone stealing something cook should be tied up with all those they stole from given a big club and pound on crook as long as they want.
i'll bet they won't steal again.

In 1964 a friend working as a police officer was shot and killed. The killer was arrested in March and executed in July the following year.

That"s swift justice.

It is sad. Sorry to hear this.

In June this year someone tried to steal my F350 while I was picking up parts. 3:15PM broad daylight. Chased the thief down the road (foot race) lost when he got into a get-away car. I was disgusted. My description to the police. Clean cut white male 6'2" age between 30-40.

Two years ago my son was injured in an accident. Flown by helicopter to a hospital an hour+ away.
My wife went in the helicopter. I went via my truck. When I reached the highway 15 miles out from the hospital. Traffic was gridlock. Thinking I may never see my son again. I had my hazards on flashing high beams driving in the break down lane. I was getting cut off driven into the woods almost or guardrails. Guess by who. To what looked like the good old retired middle class folks. That was a turning point in my life. Call it a loss of faith. I still jump start peoples cars when I see them stuck or change a tire for an unskilled driver try and be a good role model work every day etc pay all my debts.

I guess where I'm going with this to wrap it up. The bad eggs are mixed in with the good ones...

He must have been victimized by a crazed tractor nut.

Seriously, this kind of stuff is horrible, and I would be tempted very strongly to shoot someone if I caught them doing that. But would most likely just make them smell real bad by shooting around them.

(quoted from post at 14:59:04 08/14/08) Hemi, post this over on the "Farmall" Forum. Lot of good guys over there to help out.

Gordo
Are you talking about the farmall freak forum Gordo?
If so, I just signed up over there and have not gotten the conformation email yet.
Thanks again to all who have replied, It really helps knowing you guys are as jumping mad as I am over this. I am still in disbelief that someone would actually do this to another person.

When one thinks about such happenings, the perpetrator had to be someone who (all of the following) saw the tractor, was willing to steal the wheel/tire assemblies, had the means to remove and transport them. That probably means at least two trips to the site, the last trip being removing and hauling. Probably more than one person involved. Lots of local publicity will probably cause someone to identify the culprit(s).

A few months ago there was a news story about some guys who broke into the house of a player for the Green Bay Packers. Can't remember who, wasn't one of the real big stars, but still a Packer. He unscrewed one of the posts of his nice 4-poster bed, and beat one of the guys, if not both, senseless and then called the cops.

Surprisingly enough, they actually prosecuted the criminal, and said good work to the Packer. Normally they'd try to spin it around and prosecute the victim...

With crime so rampant these days I am beginning to think we need to return to vigilante justice. You find someone committing a crime and if you are willing you simply shoot them so that they will NEVER commit another one. Must be shot while in the act, not later.

I suspect we'll see more "court in the street" in the future, especially in remote rural areas, as crime increases and law enforcement becomes increasingly less able to keep up with it. Lets review:

1. Perp is probably "under the radar", for the most part, and may or may not be missed. If he's a part of a group of druggers, they may or may not want to arouse the interest of the authorities by reporting him missing.

2. Perp probably has not told anyone that he is planning to burglarize your particular place tonight, so there's nothing to link him to you, and no reason anyone looking for him would suspect you.

3. Most farms have digging equipment of some kind or other, and enough wide open space (and plowed ground) to make a suitable grave that would be undetectable.

4. Gunshots are a common occurence in the boondocks, and nobody would give it a second thought.

I don't honestly know if I could pull the trigger based on a strictly property crime. Probably not. But I have vowed that if anyone ever did anything to my wife or daughter, I would blow him away even if the cop was standing next to him- plead insanity, and let the chips fall where they may.

Sometimes I don't like the person the world seems to be turning me into.

Never got away from vigilante justice. I have targets on all sides of my property. Pity the person that gets between me and my target practice.

Hey, I'll put in $25.00 toward that fella's wheels and tires, I Hate a thiefing crook. Just contact me ......Jim in N M

Missouri recently returned to the Castle Doctrine. Previously deadly force was warranted only to protect your person. The law now authorizes deadly force to protect one's home. We have had several incidents of burlars being taken to the undertaker. We also have CCW now and you may carry a loaded gun in your car if you are otherwise legal , 25 and not drinking. Vehicles here now are truly protected by S&W. Those Chicago criminals protected by Illinois resrictive weapon laws no longer cross over into Missouri to rob and rape. Don't ya love it.

I have a set of rear wheels that are loaded in good shape off a cub that i would be happy to give him.

I live just North of Detolit Michigan , so if anyone is up this way and can get them there please contact me.

Lets not have any skamers looking for free stuff, this is the time to do the right thing .

Contact your local TV stations and see if they would do a story on this theft. they have done this a few times localy and it has proven to be somewhat effective at locating the stolen property and the manurehead that took it

that's very true. if someone tried to steal, i would just scare the shutt outta them so they don't come back. if they hurt my wife or anyone close to me, it would be their last mistake. recently i had a neighbor who's house had been broken into twice in the same week, after that, if anyone he knew drove by, they stopped in to make sure no one was stealin' again. that was 2 weeks ago, no robberies since
all us in our block are always watching eachothers backs, that will always be from now on. too much gas and diesel to steal.

I would really like to thank everyone who has replied. Its times like this that you really find out who you can count on, and everyone here has all been very helpful and kind.
I really appreciate everyones help and thoughts. The bad part is that I am in central Florida, so I am a long ways from most of you, if not all of you. So no matter what happens, I am going to have to do alot of driving and or pay a bunch in freight. But it will be worthwhile if it puts a smile on his face after all is said and done.

I don't want to but I am going to have to lie to Cecil no matter how this works out or he will not accept my help. He is a very proud person, and will reject anything I offer him if he thinks I spent allot of money for something he feels is his fault for leaving his tractor out over night. He would not even let me call the sheriff for him, as he feels foolish for doing something that he says he should have known better than to do.

Thanks again for everyone's help, Todd.

Here in MI we have been able to get a CPL very easy for 8 to 10 years. They passed the same law several years ago allowing us to protect our personal property.

Only law enforcement can have a CCW.

Everyone else can get a CPL.

A CCW is a concelled weapon includind a fixed blade knife, a CPL you can not carry that knife and other restrictions [bars,banks,etc.etc].

I agree. Sad part about your scenarioes is there are sick people that are doing that stuff already, and not getting caught. Look at all the people that go missing in a year. If you add up all them missing people, and figure in the ones that are not being missed by any one, there really is a problem with sick people out there.

A thief is one of the sorriest things I can think of. We are in a very rural area, but once in a while groups of drug addicts will come around and steal generators, pumps, chainsaws, mowers, guns, and anything that is small and easy to get. We are far off the road and have only been hit once, but those near the highway have lost a lot. If what happened to this gentleman is similar to what goes on here, it was probably drug addicts from out of the area looking to get money for a fix.

The state of Ohio where I live passed the concealed carry law a few years ago. The "castle doctrine" goes into effect here Sept. 9 of this year. I think this great. It's about time that decent citizens start having some rights of defense against the criminals that have been "coddled" by the abundant, "bleeding heart" jerks that have over infested our legal system for much too long. I'm a great beliver in a security system by Ol' Sam Colt, Mr. Smith and Mr. Wesson and many others of the same stripe.
Mr. Bob

If you're serious about giving him those wheels, how about posting on the hauling schedule (under "Community" in the side bar on the left side of this board) and see if someone can donate hauling close enough to Hemi so he can pick them up? Most any tractor haul would have enough room under the tractor for a couple of Cub wheels. It would really be great to see something positive actually come out of this. . .

hey todd, I have a set of rims and discs, I dont think the rims are in great shape,, but the outer discs are in good shape,I can take the discs off the outers, I can donate them, but shipping would be needed?? let me know , 13832 ny..pat

Hey Todd,
What part of Central Florida are you in? We are in Ocala and have a near perfect set (wheels, rims and tires) he can have. Depending on our schedule, would be probably be able to deliever. You can email me at [email protected] and let me know.

Hope we can help,

The house at our farm has been there for 40 yrs without ever being bothered. Last summer we had some "snoopers". I just happened to see them (I am convinced they drove by to check out the place and saw my truck) and confronted them. Because of this, we put a logging chain across the drive, added extra locks to the shop and updated the locks on the doors to the house.

Since we don't have any livestock, we had taken down some of the old barbed wire fences. Last April, we replaced a section so you couldn't just drive across the pasture to get to the house and shop.

About a month ago, someone tried to break into the house. The dodo used a screw driver. Tried 3 different doors. Luckily, they didn't get in. I spent over $350 replacing two doors with steel doors, added deadbolts, and put a handle that locks with a key on the storm door.

We called our welder and he is now building a gate out of 4 in sq. tubing across the drive to replace the chain.

Makes me real angry. Don't know what I would do if I caught someone stealing. Guess it would depend on whether they made me mad or just spooked me and how close I was to where the guns are.

A few years ago there was a whole crowd watched the town bully get shot dead downtown in broad daylight and nobody saw a thing. Over in eastern Missouri but I can`t remember the town but nobody has ever been charged.

I'm sorry, Bill, I'm just so afraid of offending someone that I "mince" my words. I try to be as "politically correct" as I can each passing day.
Mr. Bob

More & more states are giving people the right to defend their self & their property The state of WV did last year. before then you had to retreat to the last posible place . Now you can shoot than if they are on your land without premission.

I'd say "Tough luck" regarding the bully. If he didn't choose to be a bully, he might still be still alive. GOOD RIDDANCE!!

Thanks Lane,
I sent you an e-mail .
Thanks again to all of you for your much appreciated thoughts and help.
Lane is only a couple hours from me so hopefully thanks to all of you we can have Cecil's tractor back on all fours here shortly.

I think I am going to kidnap his tractor under the guise of putting the tires on it and give it a quick, much needed makeover.
Cecil must be color blind as he painted the darn thing blue about 20 years ago. Needless to say, it looks BAAAAD! So I think I will surprise him by cleaning it up and giving it a quick paint job.
I hope this will erase this bad experience, in his memory with some good.

Thanks again to all of you, Todd.
