So...how hard is it to drill out a role pin.
usually a guy would press them out i know but I have one that has only one way out cause I dont want to push out a bushing.

They are hard, harder than most drill bits. Try pulling with vice grips, if you can't push. Otherwise you may have to wear it out with a gaggle if progressively larger drill bits or grinding burrs.

I've had good luck heating them up first with a LP torch for knocking them out. But be careful trying to drill. Once you break the drill bit off you'll really have a though time get that out too.

I have had success a few times by finding a sheet metal screw that just fits the id of the roll pin, and threading it in, and then using a wonder bar or nail puller and levering it out, or if you have the room, using a slide hammer on it.
Good luck.

DO-NOT even try to drill out as (split-PINS)are Not drillable unless the hardness is removed first.Use a pin punch of the right diameter as they have a pilot to keep the drive out punch centered.Plain pin punches work too if you are a careful workman. CENTAUR

There was a post on these forums about a fellow with a broken tap in a carb. stem and someone used some speical acid to eat it out. May of been in the JD forum because it was a JD carb.

Like the other posts have said a roll pin is HARD so drilling, especially by hand, isn"t a real option. The biggest problem is that even if the hardness didn"t dull the bit the split down the side will more than likely cause the bit to hang up and twist off. Based on what your saying and I"m understanding, the big problem here is your not wanting to remove a bushing just to get it out. Without knowing the size of the roll pin or the bushing, I"ll make a suggestion that may or may not work for you depending on the sizes and accessibility of the ID of the bushing. If the roll pin is big enough in diameter to have a decent size hole in the center get a bit that size and use it to drill a hole down through the bushing. This will give you a hole to use as a guide. Then if the ID of the bushing is large enough to get to it use a burr to enlarge the hole enough from inside the bushing for the roll pin to drive on through. The hole in the side of the bushing should never make a difference but it"ll allow the pin to come out without removing the bushing completely. Good luck.

i have done this many times at the shop and never cises to amaze co-workers even my self sometimes, worth a try ??? find a solid pin that just fits into the id hole thru the roll pin '''some thing long enugh u can get it back out if i gets stuck (not a nail) GET YOUR OIL CAN ,FILL THE HOLE IN THE ROLL PIN ,PUT THE SOLID PIN IN THE HOLE AND TAP (TAP NOT DRIVE )
WITH HAMMER,??? CONFUSED? THIS WORKs IN ECCENSE
LIKE A CYL AND PUSHES THE PIN OUT HYDRALICLY
IT WORKED 4 ME , JUST TRY IT,ps;; let me know if it work 4 u;;;;;;;
