Loader/ PTO pump recommendations

I am considering the purchase of a Farmhand F-11 loader. It doesn't have a pump on it but it has hoses to go to the tractors hydraulics. It does have a fluid tank. I am not sure if it had a pump or not. I will go see it tomorrow probably. I am worried about my Farmall 400's hydraulics and her ability to give the loader what it needs. I can't lift a big bale with long 3pt conversion arms and the bale fork. The pressure is good at a remote so maybe it is a problem of geometry oro the fact the weight is so far from the lifting cylinder. I also have the 3 inch cylinder and not the 4.

Anyway, this loader came off an International 806. Will it bolt right up to my 400? If not what modifications am I looking at and who do you get to do it?

If the tractors hydraulics won't do the job, how do I go about figuring what pump I need to buy to put on the PTO?

I hope that all made sense...

You need to determine the pressure and flow requirements required to operate the loader properly.................they may be obtained from the manufacturer possibly??

A ball-park estimate would be a pump with 20 gpm rating at 2500 psi..................

also how big is the hydraulic fluid tank ? From what I have heard you need about 1 gal of capacity for each GPM of pump volume. You can get by with less but that is what I have read is recommended.

to those with more knowledge than I, is that correct ?

Theoretically you're supposed to have a resevoir capacity of 2 to 3 times the pumps flow rate if the system is not equipped with a cooler...........that would be ideal but not practical............

In a hyd system using only cylinders, far less heat is generated than one which uses motors as well so a smaller resevoir can be used...........if temperatures less than 180 deg. F can be maintained the hyd. system should maintain its durabilty............

You will probably be happier with the PTO pump. If I remember right, that is a 23 GPM pump, I don"t know the specs on the 400"s hydraulics, but wouldn"t be surprised if it was less than half that. It will work, but be slower with the tractor hydraulics.

The 400 would have (I think) about a 12 GPM pump putting out a max of 1500 psi which may not be enough to lift a big 1200 lb bale. Also, constant use of the loader and the smaller capacity of the 400 system will cause it to get hot pretty quick, too.

PTO pump is the best bet. I think the 540 rpm pumps are available with 11 GPM or 21 GPM. Definitaly go with the 21 GPM pump on an F11 as the cylinders are long and take lots of fluid to move quickly.

I can't remember if the 400 came with an indepandant PTO or not? If it didn'r you would have to let the clutch out everyting you wanted to use the hydraulics.

Also an 806 is a much heaver tractor 2x if I'm not mistaken.

My dads old M worked fine with the M's live pump behind the distribuiter. Just used a 5 gal resuvar
