Hello Guys.
I have a Farmall H, which I took the head off, the head was marked 8776 D, I have a good head marked 8043 DC, my engine has flat top pistons. could I use this head ? Also can I change the main bearings with out dropping the crank ? Thanks for all the help.
Ken.

I'd think a head is a head, but im not for sure.

I also think the crank needs to be taken out and measured to make sure it is in round. There is something that caused those old mains to wear out.

If you are not going to grind the crank the bearings can be replaced with the crank in the engine just loosen up the caps so the top insert can be removed and replaced.

there were kerosene/distillate heads and the higher compression gas head available for the h, but i dont have a book that covers the casting numbers. as far as the mains, yup you can change em in the tractor. there is a tool that slips in the oil hole on the crank and catches the upper bearing half as you hand crank the motor over, it will walk the bearing out. looks kind of like a nail with a tee head, head thicknees is a little thinner than the bearing. a little time on the bench grinder you could fab something up. may start with a 16 penny nail.
