Need to know the going rate

You might call some of the backhoe operators in your area and see what their hourly rate is for digging trenches etc. Of course it depends on who you are doing it for and how many acres or if it is just a garden spot.

Around here a 1/8 acre garden plot is about $50-$75 for tilled.

That is for tilled alone, not turned and tilled.

Call your local extension agent in your area. He should have a ball park figure. You need to figure wear & tear on your plow and tractor. The price of fuel will be a big factor and you need to make a decent wage. Hal

I think it depends what area of the country the plowing, or discing will be done, and the purpose. Here in Calif I get 110.00 an hr. for discing fire breakes. I am sure a farmer is not going to pay that for a 8 ft. disc. I don't think you should charge less than 75.00 an hr. Stan

On dry land farming we paid $5 acer, except for drilling and that was $10 per acer. Frontend loader/Backhoe was $100 per hour. Of course that was when Red Diesel was $1.84 a gal. Not very long ago. I now charge $120 per hour for road grader work.

We do some custom plowing to run our old tractors. Last year we charged $30 per and that worked out very good and the sandy ground but we did a 40 of heavy dry clay for the same money and it cost us to do it. This year we charged $10 per acre and they paid for fuel and oil.Made a little money doing it that way. Tractors used were 1206, 660, WD40, MM900, MM705 and two Case CK930 Western Specials and others

Figure it out by the hour. I charged $25/acre last year for no-tilling winter wheat with a 15' Sunflower, works out to about $200/hour on average. This year that probably won't cut it, I'll probably go $225/hour. Think the going rate for disking last year was about $18/acre.

I'd be charging 70-80 an hour depending on where fuel is at, and probably closer to 80 at this point. That's for an 85 hp with 4 bottom vari-width plow or an 11' disc. The plow will cover 2.5-3 acres per hour in decent going; the disc over 4 acres per hour. Those are not get rich quick rates, for lighter soil and often with a lot of rock.
