1950 8n seized motor

I was diskin today with a 4 ft disk. the tractor was pulling and running fine. I checked all the fluids before I started. After plowing for about 30 minutes the tractor stopped running suddenly. I let it cool off for about an hour and when I attempt to start it the starter will engage but the motor will not turn over the slightest. Is it time for a new motor or is their something I can do to unfreeze it?

i dont think its stuck unless it ran out of oil.

try pull starting it with another tractor

I tried pull starting it but was unsucessful. I have also tried to turn what I think is the crank pullie and it is froze. oil level is good and no water or gas in it.

Pull all the plugs out and then try to turn it over. You may have blown the head gasket and one cylinder is full of coolant and that will stop it from turning over. Also pull the starter off and make sure its not locked up in the fly wheel ring gear. NEVER EVER try to pull start one when things happen like your has or you can end up braking things that will then cost you an arm and leg to fix. Also when it shut down on you did you have good oil pressure?? If you didn't then you should not have been running it. There are a few other thing that may have happened but I would check those first

Lance, you should never try to pull start one that you believe is locked up or you will end up buying a lot of new parts for it that may not need to be brought because when one locks up that way it could be a simple fix till you pull it then it can be a fix that cost you an arm and leg plus maybe so other body parts So NEVER PULL IT TILL YOU KNOW WHY ITS LOCKED UP

how did you try to turn it??? I dont think you'll get anywhere turning it by hand, but a bar or something may help if you can get it in there.

The crank pulley is between the block and the radiator and has a belt for a fan around it

It MAY have stopped due to a fuel or ignition issue, and then the starter MAY have jammed when you attempted to start it. (NOT an uncommon occurrence with these tractors.)

With the ignition "OFF", put it in 4TH gear and rock it vigorously back and forth to see if it frees up.

Next step would be to loosen the starter mounting bolts, and see if the starter is loose, or is actually jammed.

If it's not a jammed starter, you have BIG problems.

well I tried,, removed the plugs and tried to start it and then I removed the starter (man that was a treat) and it wasn't jammed. I think I have a little job ahead of me

Well did it make a lot of noise when it stopped turning, was it hot,or did it just stop?Might be a spun bearing or something like that. You would have to pull the pan to see.If you pull the pan, look for a dry, maybe blue colored rod or main bearing cap.Thats what I would do if I couldnt find anything else.

Sounds like its time to pull it into the shop and pop the head and oil pan off and see what happened. I'd almost bet you spun a bearing and that has it locked up and or even seized that rings in one cylinder or more

Well, its hard to say.Whenever I blew up a motor a couple of times it was running good, then like you said,a little noise and it stopped, but I had a rod through the side of one and it started back up.The other one wouldnt start,no rod out the side.I guess it wouldnt matter, but I know what a cam bearing spinning screech sounds like.I dont think you have cam bearings maybe. Those were cars that wound up a lot more RPMs that blew up.Inline Ford 6 cylinders.

If I couldnt turn it,I think I would pull the pan and look in there just to see what I could.Something about has to be stuck, and if its not a rod or main bearing you are lucky.
