What is an antique tractor?

At one time, I understood it to be any tractor 1939 or older. Opinions vary... Consult your physican before taking this medication...

Probably lots of correct answers.. May even depend on what club you are in. I've herd classic back to 75, and before that antique.. but again.. I'm sure that definition is all over the board.. etc.

Some people are antiques. You might feel a 'lil antique when your parts start wearing out. Might even get a 'lil grumpy and have to have a bit of ether to get yourself going in the morning. You might also lug down a bit when your horsepower starts going down the crapper..

At least with tractors, you can rebuild 'em, but with people, things aren't that easy.

Probably any tractor that does not have a computer and all the related electronic gizmos and idiot lights that go with it!

That's a loaded question, with many options for a response. To me, it seems like sometime in the late 70's into the 80's is where the mechanical technology started drifting to where we are today, but prior to that, and going way back, tractors were built a little different, a lot heavier, a lot more durable and most certainly rebuildable vs. throw away.

With respect to that, I'd say antique or not, (really depends on what a person considers obsolete) any tractor still running and doing work, or has been restored (whole nuther subject there) for show or for an owner who just has a fancy for a particular model or type, from this bygone era defined above. Technology advances alone could define the where the line is between antique and late model I suppose, but that is still contingent upon as to what is considered obsolete, by todays production standards, some of this older equipment just can't be replaced for a given purpose.

i would say a antique tractor is one equiped with a hand crank and no electric starter, a collectible tractor is one from that era up to the early '70's, ie made in america, very well built, and even though it may be restored, referbished, or even just spruced up with a rattle can paint job, it can still be used for its intended purpose if needed,and then theres this new junk...

I was always told with that with other old items, including automobiles, that:

Classic = 25yrs
Vintage = 50yrs
Antique = 100yrs

With those definitions, there are very few antique tractors. However there are more of them every day...

Acording to many tractor club rulls an antique is 1939 and older, 1940 to 1955-1960 depending on club is considered a classic for the pulls and these are for out of the field orignal type of tractors

You kids are all alike I just turned 70 last week. BUMMER
Walt

PS to actually qualify as true antique anything must be 100 years or older. Not many tractors fall into that catagory.

I like Wikipedia and use it a lot.

Having said that, are you aware of how Wiki get a lot of its answers and definitions? User based such as you and I giving information that we know or think we know which doesn't necessarily make it correct. That is why there is the possibility of editing another's contribution.
