rusted out rim around the air stem

A Nice heavy Washer and a mig welder with a 3/16 bead aroundit... looks well done this way.

If the rim isn"t too rotten from that nasty calcium Chloride salt ballast. Follow evilboweviel"s advice. Then use cast iron weights or windshield washer fluid for ballast. May as well dismount the other tire and fix it up as well when you are at it..

If you do not have a way to braze the washer or weld
it, you may be able to place the washer on the inside of the rim and put a fiberglass patch over the washer and rim. After it dries, drill out the hole and smooth any fiberglass that may puncture your tube.

This is the only way to do it.(what Ron said) I do them for the local tire company like this. Probly 25 per year for the last 15 years. I do everyone like this.

I used to weld or braze a 5/8 washer to the rim. But in the last couple of years I have gone to using JB Weld instead. Faster and I can carry on the truck all I need to fix one.

I bought a used but like new wheel rim w/center disc for my WD for $100. I probably could have talked the guy down a little but was willing to pay that to avoid time/trouble/cost of repair.

I had a patch welded into a WD-45 rim last year. Much cheaper than getting a replacement rim unless you can find a local deal. You just need to have it welded by someone who knows what they're doing.

Ditto on welding a washer onto the rim after cleaning it up.. or weld the hole up nd redrill the hole in a clean area.

I just repaired a rim that had the hole eat out of it from cacl.. cleane dthe rim with electrolysis, then wire wheel, then welded the washer on and ground down, then used rust converter paint.. she's already back with a new tube and the old tire back on.
