ATF and Fuel

I was given a drum of new,clean DEXTRON ATF,which I'll never use up.
Can I mix some along in my diesel fuel?
What precent of ATF per gallon of fuel?

It's reputed to be an excellent injector cleaner. I'm sure you can run it 1qt. to 15gal because I've done it. Probably more.

I've added up to 30% used hyd oil in a 70s diesel with no apparent ill effects. It never ran better.

Why not just sell it ? Shouldn't be hard to find buyer for full drum of ATF .Auto /truck shop . Transmission shop ?

Sell it! You'll never have any satisfaction with the barrel sitting around in your way, and the work to get the stuff in your tractor tank.

I doubt you'll really care for the smell of the smoke. It likely isn't real healthy either.

A guy I work with runs it in his 01 PowerStroke. Gets the used stuff for free here at work. I guess if you dont mind the smoke, its free fuel. I dont even think this guy mixes it, just filters it out.

Why would someone Give you a barrel of Dextron II? I would try to sell it. If you cant get a buyer then use it for Bar/chain oil for a saw, mix 5% with diesel fuel, sell it for cutting fluid for machining. (thats what I would use it for)

I run a cup of ATF in with 17 gallons of diesel in my 7.3 powerstroke. Works great.

I agree with some of the others, it'll be worth more to you to sell it for what it is than the benefit it'll provide the fuel system.................however it can be used as an additive, no problem................

Wallace, just so you know, that ATF is likely making your diesel fuel red. If you get stopped by DOT they won't care how your road fuel got red, but they will most likely fine you for running "red" fuel in your truck. They will automatically assume that it is off-road fuel instead of road fuel because of the red color. So be warned. Mike

If its new, Id try to sell it first, then mix maybe 1/2 to 1 cup to 15 gallons, and work upo from there. I use to run as much as 1 qt. to 40 gallons, but that was Type F. I wouldnt worry about the DOT either. Ive never been dipped when I wasnt hauling, NOR do I believe that a small amount will turn yuor fuel red. Of course some are going to say it will, because they know somebody, who knows somebody whos brothers wife second cousin said it would.

I run 50/50 in my cummins all the time as I get it for free from my friends tranny shop. I have even run it straight on a few occaisions with no problems. If the diesel you are putting it in is a real diesel like a cummins, you won't even notice the difference except for a little extra power when running it at 100%, but there is no extra smoke or noxious fumes.
I have been doing this for over 10 years now and 468,000 miles later, still using the stock lift pump, injector pump and injectors.
