aftermarket tachometer

How do I install an aftermarket tachometer in an oliver 1800c? I would rather replace it with a 20 dollar unit than a new one at $130. How do I know what the mechanical ratio is, and how do I retrofit the cable to work?

Unfortunately I seem to be drawn to tractors for sale that have such "customized appointments" and then spend the necessary money to return to the original configuration. Unless it is fairly clapped out and you never intend to sell it, do yourself and future buyers a favor, and spend the $130.

There was nothing really special about the original tach that persuades me to buy another overpriced OEM. If it was not more money than buying original I would replace with a digital. Easier to see on the fly and at night.

Northern Tool & Equipment has a digital tach and hour meter for $40.00 + shipping. Batteries included, supposed to last 5+ years. Item # 160590. 1 800 221 0516. David.........

Most mechanical tachs are driven at 1/2 crankshaft speed.
