Hi Guys.
If I use loctite retaining compound, on the two liners that dropped in easy, would it last very long ? as I have never heard of glueing liners, yes the head holds a wet liner, but dry liners are not held by the head, I do think once the outside of these liners tarnish or rust they would be tight enough, Thanks guys for all the help, I have another Farmall H that I just spent $2000 building the engine, and was hoping to repair this one for little or no money. Thanks guy.

I helped my brother rebuild the engine in his M a while back, when we went to install the new sleeves, they were looser than normal. Normally they have to be pressed in the last third of the way, these could be pushed all the way in by hand with strong hand pressure. We used the strongest locktite and coated the sleeves with it, so far it has held up just fine.
 
The sleeves on the Fergusons go in easy but they have a couple of o-rings down near the bottom that seal the water from getting into the crankcase. I always dump a can of radiator sealant in right after the rebuild...just in case. ohfred

Yet again, we are talking about DRY sleeves!!!!


And to answer the original question, YES Loctite will hold the sleeves for a long, long, long time.
 
I put new dry sleeves in a Ford about five years ago that dropped in. I was advised to use Loctite sleeve sealer to glue them in so I did and have had no problems.
 
There ya go. I was thinking there could be a heat problem with the sleeve not being able to transfer heat to the block but I guess not.
 
??? I have worked on lots of engines, compressors gas and refrigeration etc. in my 40 + years as a machinist and don't remember of a sleeve that wasn't held by the head but using a little loctite can't hurt.
 
Just make sure to get the loctite made for retaining sleeves. You can also do what the oldtimers did, coat the sleeves with strong iodine and install them. Iodine will cause the sleeves to rust to the block making a very good heat transfering fit. I installed two sleeves on my Super H that way. If I have to overhaul it again someday its gonna be a bear to get them out tho.
