O/T truck beds

This is my first time posting here and i have a question. I know this is a stupid question; will all of the 1973- 87 truck beds interchange with out any problems? I'm not worried about the bed bolting up i seen early 50's with 90's beds on them, but i was told in '81 when the fenders were changed the body line down the side was changed also just enough to make putting a newer bed with a door insted of the exposed filler neck look wrong. Any answers would be appreciated.

I am not certain if they will interchange and look perfect. I assume that you are talking about a Chevy pick up truck in a half or 3/4 ton style?

I have a '73 1/2 ton sort bed, I am looking at a very solid used bed that is newer because it has a gas cap door i'm sure it will work but was second guessed by some one else.

The 73 thru 87 beds have the same body lines. The only differance is the fuel tank doors on the 79 and newer. I have an unknown vintage fuel door type box on my 78 CK20. Fits and looks perfect. The only thing you need is the fuel inlet with cap to fit the type box you have.

I once had a 1970 ? Ford with a 1976 Chevy bed on it. Looked better than no bed or a stake bed.

yes they are the same on the Chevy I have changed many of them the body lines changed when they changed the whole truck. The fuel tanks changed to a in frame instead of the saddle bag style at some point but the cab fender and hood changed around 84 I think, the hood is shorter on the newer ones
