Question on older Gleaner engines.

I have two Gleaner gas 6 cylinder engines, a G-230 and a G-262. I know they where made by Allis Chalmers and are the same except the bore and stroke, but what I don't know is the HP of the engines. Does anyone know the HP of these engines ?

G-230 was a descendant of the old Buda 230 and would go about 55 hp bare. G-262 was in the D-19 tractor and did about 65 hp on the PTO so would be making something like 85 hp bare.

With a few parts switched over they will bolt in to a Cockshutt 40 and 50. They are often used to replace the original Buda engines found in those tractors. I have a G230 in my 40.

There are at least 4 different versions of the 230 engine from the ones used in the Cockshutt 40
to the 230 built in a 262 block.Early ones had the water pumps on the head then a bigger water pump, then a water pump on the block then the 262 style. They are all goo realiable engine that aren't that bad on gas compared to other engines of their day.

I have a G-230 and a G-262 in the back yard at this moment. The G-262 in on my C-II Gleaner fueled by LP. The G-230 engine is off of a JUNK A-II Gleaner I bought a couple of years ago after Fescue season for $50.00. Both engines run like a top. The ONLY thing I have done to the G-262 is change the oil, replace the points with a Pertronix unit. replace the generator with an alternatot for NEG. Ground and replace a front crank seal that was getting oil on the Hyd. Pump belt. I wish I could find a set of LP pistons and an LP carb/demand regulator for the G-230. I want to us it to power a back-up generator.
Does these engine have an SAE bellhousing face or something else?

These are BUDA engines mfd by Allis Chalmers
after it bought the old Buda engine company.
This is explained in the book, "ALLIS CHALMERS
CONSTRUCTION EQUIPMENT" available at librarys
and bookstores. ALLIS needed bigger more modern
engines for tractors and construction equipment.
Rather than build a whole new plant, and redesign
engines they just bought BUDA, of Buda/Harvey illinois, who made up to 1200 horsepower V12
engines that eventually went into Allis-Chalmers
craw.lers and earthmovers

I am getting a running G262 out of a gleaner. Will it bolt right into my cockshutt 40? What all did you have to change? I really appreciate it. THanks
