Riveted Alternator Belt on old M farmall

While pulling parts out of the salvage yard past few weeks I pulled a alternator belt that has rivets every inch. The belt is 9/16 inch wide and the little strips are 2.25 inches long and the rivets go thru 3 layers of strips. I had never seen anything like that so pulled it for a keepsake. Now I may not be old enough to remember these but were they a common thing back in the ???? This one was on an M Farmall. Just curious who made them and when they were used. Thanks Migraine

They were made by the major power transmission companies. Browning listed them in their catalog for years, and may still make them. They were used where it required major disassembly to replace belts since they could be assembled in place.

You can get the belt new comes in different nnalert due to power and speed when in use. The were verry handy as you could make them any length needed. Installed correctly lasted verry well.

They were made as a temporary replacement to get you home and sold in out of the way places as you could take out or add to it to make it fit almost anything.

you can get new ones from HF or Northern tool, I dont remember which, but I got one last fall to run a winch. very good belts and don't slip even if a bit loose.

They make a special pair of pliers for those
belts, whick makes assembly/disemmbly more easy
I don"t know if "Northern" sells them, but they"re
in the catalogs from the manufacturers, and major
bearing houses, who catalog the belting, (sold by
the foot, and in various widths)can order them.
