2840 JD 3 point jumpy

I have a older John Deere 2840 that the 3 point will start jumping up & down a couple of inches if I don"t have it all the way up or down. When I try to run the remotes on a hydraulic auger they will kick out. I have changed the fluid & filter & cleaned the screen but it hasn"t helped.
Thanks Nick

Does the 2840 have a Rockshaft Selector Lever? This is the thing that has a MIN and MAX setting for controlling if the 3pt should raise up automatically under load? If so, turn it to MIN to deactivate it.

I've had all kinds of problems with my 2950 due to the linkage that connects this Rockshaft Selector Lever to the 3pt control lever. Unfortunately this linkage is inside the housing which made for an expensive repair labor-wise. It made me wish they never invented it (a.k.a. stole the idea from Allis Chalmers).

Nick.
On 3pt have you tried changing the L/D control to "D"? If you have then I think the L?D linkage needs adjusting which can be done without R&R of rockshaft. On the SCV's for auger operation there is a rabbit/turtle valve that needs to be turned towards the turtle for orbit motor operation. If lever continues to jump out of detent then tie it with a cord.

I just finished fixing a 2840 where hyd were slow running orbit motor. This tractor had a loader on it and it was slow and jumping. A steel line that sends oil from transmission pump was broken.I removed shifter cover you could see it.To check system I unhooked line that feeds hyd pump it was putting out a trickle.
