Last of the Narrow Front Tractors

What was the last production tractor to be offered with a narrow front end and when? Also, what was the biggest tractor (hp wise) that was offered with a narrow front?

Sunset Yellow 1070 Case open station won its Class at the 71 Indiana State Fair , It was a Tricycle .Lots of 4020 JD were tricycle,Also IH, Never can recall a tricycle in the Allis line that had the squared front sheet metal of the late 60s , That info is probably available easy enough ,

I don't know if it was either the largest or the last but Ford offered a narrow front on the 8000 and I believe also the 9000. They were 105 and ~120 PTO hp respectively. Production of those models ended around 1975. I'd assume that the narrow front was carried to the end of the run...

An old neighbor of mine when I was growing up had a IH 1066 and a JD 4230, both with narrow fronts. He bought them new that way. I think the 1066 was a '74 but not sure of the 4230.

I have brochures for the JD 30 Series tractors and the latest one is dated 76-11. They all mention that the Roll-O-Matic was available for the 4030 & 4230 Tractors. The next year when the 40 Series came out there is no mention of it in the brochures so I would say that is when Deere dropped the option from their line. The single front wheel was also available on these 2 tractors. Actually, when you ordered a 4030 or 4230 with something other than the standard wide-front you got a tractor with a split pedestal just like you had on a 3020 or 4020. You could then swap the front ends around just like you could on the 10 or 20 Series.

Mac Millan, in his monumental 1990 two-volume history of John Deere Tractors and Equipment documented a 1981 delivery of a narrow front 4040 to a farmer in Minnesota. That's the latest narrow-fronter I have heard of.

Hey Rod, Good of you to speak up for the Fords. I have a picture of a 9600 with a narrow front, and they were built up to '76. My 9000 has one but it's off from an H. But it looks like JD produced them much later.

Do you remember any of the smaller JDs having a narrow front later than that? I could swear I was looking at a JD brochure from the early 80s that had pictures of 2 and 3 plow size JDs with narrow fronts. The years go by so fast that I'm not completely sure of that but it sure sticks in my mind that it was sometime around 1983??

I have owned two 4230 John Deere Gas burners with roll-a-matic fronts, also have a 11.00X12.00 single front that was on a 4230 Deere.

I've read that the IH 1206 was the largest IH offered with a narrow front, but I don't remember where I saw that.
