i understand this is a fairbanks and morse type fm j magneto, but my quest. is what application was this used on for some reason i'm thinking a tractor or crawler ( 8 cyl.), if anyone has any insight on this let me know also was wondering what might be the value thx for all and any help Mike

The cap looks like from a pre 1949 FORD V/8 distributor cap.Is the drive tang off center like FORD camshaft drive.CENTAUR
 
The cap was used on the 42 Ford v8.It may be a magneto.The wire would have to plug into the top center connection on the cap.There were many military uses of Ford v8 engines.A cap change was made in 1946.
