A boy in Michigan replaced the Kohler in his cub cadet with a new honda that he got from the small engine warehouse in In.
started it up and it got HOT,HOT, melted the hood and the plastic on the choke cable, lost oil pressure, just in the short time it took to drink a cool one!!
looked at the muffler, the paint burned off. cut it open and it was a sorry peace of crapp,,very little flow possible (it was not a honda made muffler)the people at the warehouse said tuff s--t..what to do?

I think you got stuck with a cheapo honda off brand with honda stickers on it.

Hondas are excellent engines.

I would contact Honda. Honda offers a warranty, if you are using their muffler and that caused the problem, now, if he is using non Honda mufflers, he or the muffler manufacturer is responsible for any and all expenses to repair or replace it if the muffler he put on the engine caused the problem.

Inform them you will contact Better business bureau and the chamber of commerce. If they still won't play ball, call the BBB and chamber for that city and state.

What made him suspect that the exhaust was blocked? I would think a blocked exhaust would cause poor acceleration and not be able to achieve full speed.

I have seen that happen to an air cooled engine when the cooling air flow was blocked or the couling was left off. They get hot real quick in those instances.

Installed in such a way it couldn't get air to cool or the exhaust was being contained under the hood.

The muffler didnt have anything to do with it failing.

the motor is new, the people at small engine warehouse put their muffler on so the exhoust would come out the right spot. I have two honda engines, and and have no trtouble with them. if you could see the muffler even the cool ade drinkers woud see how junkie it is

something isnt right here, i would think the wrong muffler would just cause poor engine performance maybe some heat but not enough to melt the machine, unless the exhaust is blowing directly on it, the only thing i can think of is air flow problems how did the air flow around the original engine, compared to the honda? is the honda taller and sitting up under the hood more where air isnt getting to it, or is it closer on any of its sides to the body of the tractor? can you post some pics, im courious on this as i was thinking of repowering some stuff with honda engines, i had bought a honda walk behind lawn mower in 1985, it ran until 2004! and thats with us using the heck out of it, i was buying a briggs powered mower every 3 years before that
