NH 499 gear box leak.

I just got a NH 499 haybind and the gear box that hooks to the pto and runs the pump is leaking fluid out the frount seal. Can I remove the lube hose and plug and fill the gear box with grease? This must be a older model. The gearbox was removed from the pump on the later models. Thanks Ross

you rather do something half s$$ed like pumping a gear box full of grease than replacing the seal and repairing it correctly.

farmers are the worse of the lot about not wanting to make a proper repair. why is that??

Too cheap, to lazy or just too stupid?

It's been a while since I've had an older style 499 pump apart, but if I recall correctly, there is a planetary gearset inside that small gearbox. Grease would too easily push out of the pins that the planet gears spin on. Best to put in a seal now before any more damage occurs, because parts for those older style pumps are expensive and sometimes hard to find.

Thanks.Im going to replace the seal.I know that nh went to grease in some of there rake gear boxs.thought I would ask.

Sure glad there's perfect people in the world like you who know everything. I know I'll sleep well tonight knowing you helped this gentlemen fix his haybine.

If we were to repair everything that broke we would go broke real quick. Too cheap or maybe you don't pay enough for your food. If the money was there to fix it, it would be fixed.
