I have been diagnosed with a Torn Miniscus , can you guys and gals tell me what the actual healing time is until your back to Normal ? I think some here may have had the same operation and I value your opinions on this . Thank you for letting me ask here, I get good feedback from this Forum on many areas .

I have a tear also , did consult about surgery . Waited,,,waited , Never got it . Talked to my Chiro about it he said once fluid sac is opened , they are never the same . I am carefull and havn't had any problems with it in over two yrs now.

I had my surgery for that last sept and am digusted that it is not back to normal . I thought after healing I would be fine but it still hurts, just not as bad. And I had one of the top docs in the country because I had connections through a doc friend. Still not satisfied. I say do the chiro thing a lot for months . Better to try that then the knife. You can always resort to the knife.

I had a torn miniscus about 6 years ago. I had orthoscopic surgery they made three small holes and went in there and cut out the torn part. I could hardly walk when I went in to the hospital. I was out that day and back to work in a week ( I had a desk job then ) I would say I was back to normal in 3 or 4 weeks and I haven't had any trouble since. I work hard now and I am on my feet all day with no trouble.
Good luck Ed

Had surgery on my right knee in '98 went in on Friday layed around over the weekend and went back to work with a brace on Monday, went in for my 1 month checkup and the doctor asked if I was up to going back to work. I told him what I did, he said I was nuts, although slightly more eloquently than that and we parted ways. Have always had pain in both knees. just learned to live with it.

Had both minisci done at the same time on right knee Dec. 31, 2001. Was released by doc to travel to FL 9 days later. On crutches for about three days. PE continued for about a month. Don't put it off like I did. Do it now!!!

I tore my meniscus eight years ago, when I was 42. The orthopaedist told me that they really can't repair it if you're over 40. I opted to have it scoped, and I'm not sure that was the right decision. I was walking just fine only a couple of weeks after I had my injury, but it took me months to recover from the arthoscopic surgery. My knee will never be at a 100 percent again, that's for sure.

Your mileage may vary.

I tore mine in March and was supposed to get the tear cleaned up via "scope in June after calving was over but before irrigating started. Well, the calving strung out and we"ve had a dry stretch so surgery looks like September now. My knee felt tight for about two months but I have full range of motion now. It doesn"t feel stable and I have to watch myself on rough ground. It aches a bit at the end of the day.

Some good advise-if it is not that bad, then leave it alone. I have read that a torn meniscus if not too bad that it hurts or locks up, or causings problems, will heal on its own. Been there, did that 2 times now, wish I hadn't the first. Your knee will never be as strong again.

I tore mine about thirty three years ago. Dr wanted to put it in cast for seven weeks to see if I could keep from having the operation. I asked why not operate and get it over with. He said it would take seven month if he did that. I took the cast. Guys I know that have had the operation about the same time have had more trouble than I have over the years. I am not saying it has been trouble free but other than the original seven weeks in a cast I have not had any lost time over it.

If any surgery is minor this one is. I nearly lost my legs a few years ago in a farm accident and have had more knee surgeries since then than I care to count. Meniscus clean up is by far and away THE easiest. My last one was in Dec 07, outpatient. Doc recommended 6 weeks of presurgical physical therapy 2x per week and it was well worth it. After the presurgical PT had the surgery, took 45 mins, under a general. I was pretty out of it the rest of the day. Used both crutches for a week, and a single crutch for a week. I was able to drive in a week. Within 48 hrs I felt pretty decent if I just sat around and was pretty decent in a week. I did the full 12 weeks of post surgical PT and it was time well spent. Dont mess around with it, its torn cartiledge in there, it wont heal, and it will keep damaging other stuff.

I had my first one in 1964. Technology has changed since then. Had to more scoped in the 80's. The scoop is mild you should be up and around quickly.
The problem with mine is 44 years of damage creates so much arthritis. I need a replacement at this point.

I suffered a torn miniscus and torn ligaments in my right knee on Apr. 19th. I underwent the arthroscopic surgery June 4th. The soreness and flexability was improving prior to the surgery. The surgery was somewhat of a setback. I think I am a little better off now at 3+ weeks post-op. The Dr. told me on June 18th to do what I am comfortable doing and come back in 3 weeks. My knee is still swollen and still doesn't bend as far as it should, but I notice a slight improvement each day.

I don't know how old you are ,but I say get it done. My first surgery was in 1972. Thats when they opened it up and removed as much as they could. In 1990 had orthoscopic done to both knees at the same time. Right knee lots of scraping etc. swelled up pretty good. Left knee just the standard get the loose stuff out. Was back to work in 1 1/2 weeks limping a little bit though. In 2006 I had both knees replaced about 2 months apart. Was bone on bone in both knees. Should of had that done 5 years earlier. My 2cents get it done! I am 55 years old. There is somewhat of a new surgery now. Son who is in army had it after deployment. He had Cadavour miniscus replacement. His knee is like new now. Long!!!! recovery though. If caught before lots of damage this can be done.
