O/T DTV converter boxes

I bought mine at Walmart and it's a Magavox. Cost
me $12.00 along with the $40.00 coupon. Easy to install. Hal

I have a Radio Shack and a Wal-Mart one. The Radio Shack one is better you can turn it on and off without the remote and it will still pass thru your old signals. I haven't chacked it all out yet but it may even be able to run the TV from it's remote ?
I'm not looking forward to Feb. 2009 ! This digital is clear when it comes in , but 2 of my stations don't come in too good so they just cut out instead of having fuzzy days. Same thing happened in the last few storms we had. Trying to watch the tornado warnings-watches and that dang digital keep cutting off so I turned it off ! At least with the old antenna you could still hear it and watch it in between the fuzzys. The sound seems to go first on the digital where the old type the picture went first but you still could hear most of it during bad weather.
If I want TV after 2-2009 it looks like I'm going to have to spend the BIG bucks and go with a dish ?
TOO MUCH GOVERNMENT MEDDLING !!!!!!

You might want to speak with the Engineers at your local stations. Many of them are running at less power on the temporary digital channels but will boost it up when they go 'permanent'. I know that is true of the ones at our location.

I also have a box from Radio Shack (Digital Stream). I also have had the same experience with it as Mike M. Since I live in rural Central Texas the box will pick up digital signals and display them with only 35% or more signal strength. My digital TV's will only show the channels with 65% or more signal strength. Like Mike also says " storms knockout the signal."

yeah storms tear 'em up. making 'em useless when they were most important. for local weather coverage. oh well there's still AM radio and the NWS computer talking on the scanner.

I"ve got 2, both from Best Buy with the Insignia brand, but bought at different times. Installation is very simple and the functions on the remote are ok: Zoom, Channel Guide, et al.

One of the boxes failed at 60 days. Warranty is 90 days and Best Buy only accepts returns for 30 days. However, they decided to take it anyway before my Irish came up.

I much prefer the analog system but that is history. Too many weather channels on digital but its easy to delete them. Think I have 29 channels and after editing I"ve got maybe 10.

I searched for TV Converter Box reviews and found a couple articles that said the Insignia was OK. RCA was rated the highest and was being sold by Walmart. Checked Walmart and they said don"t have them and don"t know when we"ll get them.

I don't pick up many channels with the converter.
The tv set has rabbit ears and I can get a lot of channels with them. I have programed all of them in, but it may may change by Feb 2009 when they use digital. The Magnavox converter has a tuner too. The channels I get are very clear. Hal

I have a article beside my computer that says Zenith DTT900 or GE/JASCO 22730 have tested good, size about 9" X 6.5" X 1.5" high.

I got two RCA Converters from Wal-Mart and they work well. I previously got 9 channels, now I get 22. Some are weather and religious but I have more choices.

got my Zenith DTT900 at Circuit City and am not too excited about it. I live between Atlanta GA and Chattanooga TN. I can watch most of either cities analog stations but with the digital tuner i get four or at most five channels. It may get better after the first of next year. David....

I have a RCA and a Magnavox. I like the Magnavox becaues it has a signal strength meter to aim the antenna. Also if the signal is not strong the weather will break it up.
