Survey Question

Excellent! Just like the years before that and the same as I expect the ones not here yet to be.

You'll get a lot of different answers to that question but I have to ditto RockyMO. Life just seems to get better and better. I turned 72 a month ago today.

They have been very good. I don't depend on the government to support or subsidize my life. By effort on my part and God's grace the quality of my life is good. Thank you for asking.

Over the last 20 years or so, I would have to say that the last 5 have been some of the best. There are things we have been working on for a long time and they are finally starting to "come on line" and show results. Obviously the future is uncertain, but the last 5 years have DEFINITELY been a time of improvement.

Good question. Kinda mixed. Financially, I haven't made the progress I hoped for, especially with my 401K. A lot of that is due to the restrictions in our plan. And my house is worth a lot less. And my retirement came sooner than I expected, due to the plant closing. The union did get us a nice retirement bonus. But I am making some headway on some health issues, and I am starting a new carreer soon. So I think things will get better in the next year or so.

My quality of life is great, the real problem is the debt our country owes to foreign countries.

Bottom line, we are all probably on a very slippery slope. We keep electing politicians that keep promising us more benifits with money they are borrowing. A good example is the stimulus check.

Mine has gone down, imports forced me to close the machine shop.. But I am lucky to have some savings and decent health, so I am really blessed, in the big picture.. I am trying to figure out a new trade/business to carry me til retirement, but I am hesitant to invest in anything, until I see what this oil crisis is going to do.

I'd have to say things are not going so well. I just compleated the Ag Mech program at Wisconsin Indianhead Tech. College in New Richmond, WI, but I can't get a job at a dealership because buisness is down. With more farms going out of buisness it makes it even harder. Second I would like to own a farm of my own, but the farms that are for sale are high in price. on average it cost between 300,000 to 500,000 for 100 acres of land. All of the good land is also going up for development. (something this contry has too much of because of the number of homes on the market). Hopfully this new president will do the contry good and not be like them so called "presidents" that don't do anything but help the rich.

Certainly can"t ask for any more than I have now. Can"t take anything for granted, especially in light of Katrina; Greensburg, Kansas; China Earthquake; Midwest flooding; etc, etc.

One thing I do know is that I try to keep the good book handy and the faith must be strong or I am nothing.

Not exactly trying to be hypocritical or a preacher man, but i"m just telling everyone to be strong.

Funny you should ask. Was just thinking the other day, June 16th 2003 was the day I ran my ex wife off. In the last five years my life direction has change 180 degrees for the better. Five years ago, I was working for Tyson foods running a poulty harvester (yes I was shooting chickens out of a cannon and I am hear to tell you that ain't near as cool Larry makes it sound!!!!) I went to the mail box and started to figure out I was 20+ grand in debt I did not know about, my house was falling down around me. I was not doing good at all. I worked my but off, not spending any money on anything I did not have to have, worked 60+ hours a week for ol' John's Chicken outfit, got all the credit card and medical folks off my back. In the last 3 I have got a good job, fixed my house up $200 job at a time, started dating (two weeks ago married) a great woman, bought 56 acres, rented my grandmother's row crop ground, bought a ford 960 to "play" with in the tobacco patch and rake hay with, (will fix her up pretty some day if I can ever park her long enough!) I have stared padding my 401k as well as my state retirement with moderate risk stuff, I have made alot of new friends as well as gotten reconeced old ones, I have time to shoot, hunt, and fish. Started a tradition of have'n a huge party if my front yard one weekend a month that draws people from 4 states every year.

Life on my hill is great, don't know how it can be better. Wish every one could be as happy with what they have as I am right now.

Soory if I sound to happy about the world around me but life is too short to be mad and worked up all the time.

Dave

I`m not going to go into it but I`m not complaining . I recon a guy can always use a few more bucks but if I had them I could use some more . What gets me is we are always being told how bad it is and how bad it`s gona be . Most people here seem to be happy , hit the road , there`s hardly room for a extra car and ya dont see any junkers , we used to patch old cars up and driv`em , now ya scrap it and get a new one [sign here] . Whens the last time ya seen a red car with a blue fender on the freeway or some duct tape . Boats , quads , campers , big riding mowers for a 1/4 a. lawn . This gas thing is gona hurt but overall I dont think most folks can whine to much . Ya should`nt whine with your mouth full . Sorry I got off track there .

Financially, down. Got "downsized" at my previous job and took a cut in pay to come here. But at least I have a job.

Personally, things are great. Two kids with over a 4.0 GPA because of advanced placement classes. One a Jr. at Michigan State, the other a H.S Sr. My dad is 90 and still living on his own. My wife has a job. And I have "toys" to pursue my interest in wildlife habitat management on our 80 acres. And I have a good supply of wood cut and split for the winter.

For the most part, the last 5 yrs have been good for us. We have been involved in a court battle over James' dad's estate for over a year now and that has been very hard emotionally, mentally, and physically. Through it all, we have pulled together and we will get through it.

If you were looking to make a left leaning point you missed the mark.

My last five years has been very good as well.

2 of my 3 children were born, I moved into the country and bought 23 acres, contracted my own house, build my own barn and now can 'play' farm a little(bale hay on it). Everyone is in good health, bills are paid on time, wife is still my best friend, and children are growing up...

The difference is most people on this board are glass half full people and not half empty. Everyone has problems. But the people on this board are for the most part hard working good people. Those type of people tend to be successfull. Maybe not millionaire successful, but there is more to life than just money alone.

Hard working people will generally always(barring unforeseen personal tragedies) be better off in 5 years...

I would say great. Wife and I adopted 4 lil girls that make my life awfull busy . son is out of service home from Afghanistan . New grandson . Business is good, not great, but good. Down side, folks are getting older and it's starting to show, lost couple family pets . Never enough free time anymore .

Going good.

Business is good. Investments are up 20% in just the last 2 years (and yes this includes the recent down turn)

Have a new daughter and love her very much.

Lost both my parents so that is not so good.

So give it up how are you doing?

In the last 5 years I had had both knees and both shoulders replaced with titanium ones. Have had gall bladder removed, been poisoned by my doctor (accidental) and was in intensive care for 3 days. Had 11 weeks of the Shingles . BUT I have been fortunate to be able to restore a Farmall M (1951) and am still working on an A(1941). Restored an old hay wagon also.Life is good because the Lord has smiled on me. Am retired and not rich bit live well with a great wife (3rd try) . Nuff said Henry PS I am 76

My life and business keep getting better. Farming is finally making some good money right now and has done pretty well for the past few years. My cattle business is suffering a bit and my hay business is supporting it. But life is great for me, I just feel bad for some of my neighbors like all the contractors I know. And someone needs to let that stupid college kid know that it is not he job of a new president to find a job for him.

now i don't want to start a fight here, but stupid college kid? whats the point of that? You don't go to college to get stupid. If you haven't heard a lot of people lost their jobs because companies went overseas and send cheap products back. maybe you should open your eyes and look around before you start leaving comments like that.

I know this is not a political area, but Oboma said he will give the companies that stayed here in the US a tax break and not the ones that went overseas.

Otherwise with that all said, my life has been slow for the past 10 years since the company I worked for was replaced by chinese products because they were cheaper.

Pretty good, overall. Family has acquired two daughters-in-law that are probably even better people than my sons they married, if that's possible, and now have 3 grandchildren with another on the way. Kids are all educated and have good jobs, downside is I guess I had forgotten how much they helped around here, and now I have trouble keeping up with everything (will be 60 in August- and as dad used to say, "I'm not the man I used to be, and maybe never was." Finally worked up the nerve to take some flyers on real estate deals, which have been very good to me financially. Getting along better than ever with wife of 37 years, now that we both recognize that neither of us is going to change the other.

Overall, can't complain a bit.

Real good - I am a retired firefighter, started a business and it is doing quite well, I am now single and in real good health. For a 64 year-old fart not too bad - just wish I had a place to play with old tractors!

For the first time I'm out of debt, no kids at home, all happly married, three new grandkids to go along with two older ones.Wife will retire next May from FSA,only downside is my cardio dr told me I need to sell the cows.

So - companies will get tax breaks, the rest of us will have to pay more taxes to make up for it.

Overseas companies don't pay any regular taxes in the USA, so they will not be affected by tax breaks or 'extra' taxes. Silly comment from external_link then. Sounds good to silly colledge kids that have no worldly experience, but it is all empty words. To tax overseas companies you need to raise tarriffs,w hich ticks off other countries & they realiate & kill our exports. The imported stuff passes on the import taxes, and so everything in the store costs more. So folks get upset at the inflation & can't buy as much, an so we spiral downward from the import taxes. Sounds good in a rah-rah speeck, but the reality is the govt can't tax your job back into exsistence.

Farming is going great, last 5 years I'm finally getting to a place I'd like to be. Surrounded by family members in poor health is my only complaint; life would be a little happier if I could share more good health with family. Ecconomically, these are some of the best years ever.

I said what i thought I heard, I don't know much about taxes and how things work with the goverment. but its just me and my opinion is that now is similar to the 1920's when everyone is getting good money then fallows the depression. I could be wrong, but thats my guess. I also don't need someone giving a rude remark about it either.

Today is my birthday and in good health and so is the family. Retired five years ago come Oct. 3rd, but who is counting. Check comes once a month (not ss). I feel better than 5 years ago. Left the 24/7 cell phone on the job and did NOT get one. The inflow is more than the outflow each month. Able to buy a new toy once in a while. Took the grand daughter fishing the last two days and got a few bait stealers and no bugs so a good day.

Yes I am better off than working. Did put in 36 years with a two year hitch in the Army mixed in.

The real bone is the 4 dollar gas.

We've been educating idiots for many, many years. That's why we have so many educated idiots around us. Want proof? Look no further than external_link. An educated idiot if ever there was one. My America has always been about War Heroes, Beautiful Blonds and Beer. Only one candidate meets that kind of criteria.
