Oil leak John Deere 60 tractor flywheel side. Help!!

Here I am again asking for help with this oil leak.I bought a used slinger and cover for my J.D 60 tractor.I put them on yesterday using the feeler guage to set gap at .004 around slinger.So after that I got the flywheel back on and I started the tractor.After letting it idle for a little bit did not see any oil.Then I gave it the gas and shortly after that it started to spray oil.So here I am with a leaky tractor that has me stump.Looking for some information to stop the leak .Going to get a service manual so I can see how to turn down the oil pressure.Any help would be great.Thanks for all the other information.Blaine
 
The 60 series John Deere tractor has a non adjustable main bearing. Does your tractor make a thumping sound under load? Worn main bearings can cause this sound. Can you detect an up and down movement of the flywheel/crankshaft. Too much end play on the Waterloo engines will cause it not to drive the slinger and also if it has the driving tab on the flywheel that engages the slinger missing it will not turn the slinger and sling the oil back to the crankcase. Over filling with crankcase oil will cause oils slinging. Some farmers have drained the transmission plug which is close to the engine oil drain plug and then added more engine oil and increased the level too high.
 
I believe the 60 Models use a rubber ring seal in the slinger instead of the cork seal. The rubber part number should be A4224R......
 
Have you checked to see that the drain hole is open and not trapping too much oil in the cover?
 
Thanks for all the help with the oil leak .It was the vent tube in the valve cover that was plugged up.I've used it in the hay feild now for about 5 days no more drips at that spot on the tractor.Great help on this site.All you guys are great.Hope ever one had a safe 4th.Thanks again Blaine
