Trying to find out how old IH McCormick hay baler is Does anyone know if there is a sight that you type your serial # into that tell you the age Thankyou, Duane

I still use a model 45 IH baler. It was built in 1954. I suspect a model 46 would be from the late 50's, but don't know for sure. Tje only reason I keep using my old 45 is to keep my knotter mechanical skills current.

An old farm eq dealer said IH tried to make a good baler but never got it right. The best running baler Ive used was a Massey Ferguson.

Funny thing you mention it! I just sold a #45 on Friday and we have a #46 here. They are a nice baler if you are doing a small amount of hay. The reason some people had problems was they were using a 6-10 acre machine to do 50-60 acres with it. I had the manual for the #45 it was printed in 1951. So Im guessing it went to about 1955-56 then the #46 came out until about 1963 then it became the 460 ALL TWINE or ALL WIRE.

they made an IHC 47 it wasn't much better than the 46 my friend has 46 wire baler its not bad but still has the weak points of the 46. Like one said they are not made to bale the world just a few acres at a time.
