The ol' M got to turn some rained on horse hay this morning. Now, that ol' cow is just flat fun to run!

Wonder if my wife knows yet that she needs some bigger tires on the back of that rascal?........Ah, maybe I'll just surprise 'er. :>)

Whoa Allan. You might want to think about that big surprise for your wife. In my experience those kind of surprises found me keeping the hound company for a couple of nights.

Seriously, what are the differences between horse hay and not-horse hay. I have a friend who keeps many horses and he turns up his nose at not-horse hay, but he could not explain what the differences were.

When I was on the farm they all got the same hay and seemed to do OK. We didn't even know there were differences.

I remember my Pa telling me that the horses got the hay the cows would not eat . And they did well on it too. Also remember being taught in Ag class that horses could not digest high quality hay and it was not good for them. Now I hear of horse people buying high quality hay for their horses and also paying high vet bills for sick horses.... Hmmm. Maybe the folks that made their livelyhood with horses knew a few things about them???

I feed the horses the crap 'cause they can live on anything including tree bark and the corral fences.

I don't feed 'em much alfalfa; it gives 'em the "shuts", but they'll sure eat it......................23 hours a day, if I'd let 'em. :>(

They do way better on plain ol' grass tho.

Just wondering. Do you have the feeling that you are going up hill all the time. LOL Nice looking rig.

Difference between horse hay and cow hay? bout $1.50-$2.00 a square bale. round here horse people want hay that hasn't been rained on, cows get the junk stuff.

You bet they do, Allan. We fed ours timothy and quack. My grandfather said the timothy "tickled their stomachs" and the quack was good for their kidneys. They were working horses, too.

A cow has 4 stomicks and a horse has only 1. So a horse needs hay that is slightly weather beaten that digests easier. Deer are like that too. They can starve on a belly full of good hay because they can't digest it.

Allen, you need some fenders on that rig. If that fancy seat got to bouncing and bounced you out against one of those tires you would be flat as a gopher late for his hole. Besides that, it just looks naked. Too nice of a machine not to have fenders.

That old girl would really look nice with a set of flat top fenders off of a later model. I've got a set on a allis wd and they work great.

Only time we've ever had digestive problems with horses (in 35 years) was when we fed too good of hay. All the "back yarders" seem to want the highest quality alfafa, and that's about the worst you can do for them. We feed wild grass hay, a little over-ripe, and give them enough so it keeps things moving inside. 2 rules- NEVER let them run out of water, and don't feed hay with any mold or moisture damage.
