Super MTA Diesel vs 450D...what am I missing here?

Been watching adds for some time now...I am kinda lost.
Why in the world are Super MTA Diesels so much higher than 450Ds? They are darn near the same tractor.
Take the hood and sheet metal off, cover the serial numbers and most could not tell the difference.
Is it just because they built less of them?
I know I am hard headed...but I don't get it.

"M" is a much more "collectable" tractor than the 450, and always will be, due to the zillions of them that so many guys used back on the farm, as kids. As with most collectibles, the more "options" it has, the rarer and the more desirable it is. SMDTA is at the top of the heap among the M's. Doesn't matter in the slightest that the 450D is nearly the same, and just as useful- collectors want what they want. Same reasoning behind the fact that '50 Mercuries are worth considerably more than '50 Fords, and both are worth MUCH more than the nicest of the stable that year, the '50 Lincoln.

I was talking to a guy last week that said he and his Dad went and looked at a 1957 Chevy. Said it was a real nice car & the guy wanted $100,000.00 for it !

Well guys, if you've ever drove or owned one in thier day I'm guessing you would take the 450D hands down the SMTAD was what most of us in those days called the gutless wonder a strong M or SM would kick its backside anyday given the fuel consumption was better on the SMTAD but since in those days diesel fuel was somewhere around .16 to 20cents agallon and gas at maybe .26 to .30 that wasn't much of an issue. The early torques had issues i.e. you had to pull the trigger and drop the stick and I'm sure the 450 was much the same but stronger and the 450 was a strong 4X14 plow tractor the SMTAD was an average 3X14 plow tractor at best. Sorry guys I was there in those days. PS in cold weather was a hard starting SOB. IMHO

If you ever had to remove and reinstall sheet metal on a SMTA vs. a 450, with those damn screws and caged nuts on the 450, you'd know why people are willing to pay more for the SMTA...or, more correctly, why they'd pay less for a 450.

I do believe there were less of the 450 made than the SMTA, gas or diesel.

Easy reason why they are worth more: people are not logical.

I'll give Buzzman the sheet metal issue because for one I was a young pup when our local dealer brought out a golden demo special 450gas with a 4X14 FH plow (wish I'd tracked the Golden Demo)awesome tractor easy to handle and blasted the plow.
