I AM BUYING A FARMALL TRACTOR ,THE GUY SAYS IT IS A SUPER M,BUT IS NOT SURE IT WAS HIS GRANDFATHERS,
THE ONLY NUMBERS I CAN FIND ARE 357023R1 (THAT IS ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF ENGINE)
HE HAS A PAPER HANGING ON IT SAYING
MODEL M
SS# S-30797AJ
IDLE SPEED 1600
CAN ANYONE HELP ME, WHAT YEAR THIS IS AND IF IT IS
A MODEL M, OR SUPER M, OR IS IT A (H)??
ANYONE GOT ANY IFORMATION I WOULD APPRECIATE IT

does it look "LIKE" the top or bottom photo... the S/N appears to be from a 400 or 450 series rather than an M or SM series...

1st photo is of a 350 Farmall.. the 300, 350, 400 and 450 series tractors all pretty much look the same.. the 350 & 450 have the white.. the 300 & 400 are all red...

The 2nd photo is a Farmall M... the M and SM look pretty much the same.. the SM has disc brakes like the 300, 350, 400 and 450 does... notice the distinct difference in the sheet metal and fuel tank of the M vs the 300 and up series...

BTW, 357023R1 is a No Good number on the H, M, SH, SM, SMTA, 300, 350, 400 and 450 tractors.. gas or diesel...
 
go to ( external_link ) thats how i found all the info on my super m. it gives casting codes and dates. there's a plate that's mounted on the right side of the block. mine is 6 2 y. that means that it was built on june 2nd and y was 1953. great page.
