mobile home paint

what type of paint should I use on a mobile home that has aluminum siding? I think some kind of enamel but not sure and don't want to go to the paint store and get railroaded into something expensive that I don't really need

Many decades ago as a kid, did some odd jobs for a guy that owned a mobile home park and had several rentals, including some oldie oldie oldies. He gave me enamal to use on them, but they were the ones prior to the vertical seamed siding. And I had to clean them first. He gave me this liquidy acid that brushed on like snot that stripped the old paint off in seconds, then I had to scrub them down with soap and water. Paint went on good, stayed for years. I'd be surprised if the siding used today isn't powder coated, given today's technologies. Don't forget to seal coat the roof too. They're prone to leaking at the seams over time. Seal coat came/comes in 5 gallon buckets, put it on after washing the roof, and stand along the edges using a push broom so don't fall through.

That acid stuff I used, think was called "Stripper", and wonder if they even make it anymore. Get that stuff on you and "Woo Hoo Hoo" as you dance around. Nasty stuff. Felt like was on fire, no joke. The old paint literally bubbled off in seconds.

Good luck.

Good acrylic latex semigloss, just as you would use on a house. Wash the siding and rinse well. Flat paint will chalk too much.

yes this is a 82 we were pressure washing it and my wife sprayed some degreaser on it to remove some rust stains from the screws and the paint came off so now I have to paint it

I would use zinc chromate for a primer on aluminum
and then spray on a sealer over the primer. I would an auto type paint such as acrylic enamel with hardener from Dupont or Martin Senour. They
also have single step urethane with hardener that's a little more expensive, but will last when exposed to the elements. The siding should be sanded smooth and then washed with Prepsol before applying paint. Hal

I painted my house 5 years ago with regular latex house paint. It had aluminum siding that was chalking off and was completely bare in spots. Power washed real good and applied Dutch brand house paint. Used an airless sprayer and put on two coats in one day by myself. Has been power washed since to get the moss off of the north side, and still looks as good as the day I put it on.
