Drip Irrigation

i bought a couple of Harbor freight drip irrigation kits. I tried to hook them up last week, but they don't seem to work very well. I thought the water was only supposed to drip out, instead, the first 5 emmiters spray out a lot of water, and nothing goes beyound that. It has a 3/16 feeder line. Am I doing something wrong or are these emmitters goofy? I thought it should just dribble out, but it comes out real good in the 1st few, then quits. I tried varying the pressure, but it didn't seem to help. Any ideas?

Do you have the proper emmiter on the end of the tube? Some emmiters are also a through feed and need a hose added for another emmiter and some are for the end of the line tube. Check if you have both types and utilize each type as designed. Mine has worked great, good luck.

go online to dripworks.com and you will see a typical setup. on my drip system i had to put a pressure regulator on to knock it down to 10 psi. it works great and i have around 500 feet of drip hose on two lines.

You can get emmiters that deliver differant ammounts. All the ones I have purchased were color coded according to the ammount they delivered. Or you might also check to see if they are marked on the emmiter as to the ammount of water they deliver.

The ones that spray the water rather than drip are called "spitters".

You may just have elbows on it and not little hose with emitters on end. Some spray so many gpm and some gph minute vs. hour so many different types and sizes. I use spray type emitters for watering garden rows but drip ones for trees getting them from Submatic.

Use them all the time. Sounds like you are hooking more that one to the same 3/16 line...there is a limit to what a 3/16th can feed. Use like 1/2 inch plastic for main feed lines. There are dozens of emitterss...takes a while to get what you want.
My self, I use what I call a dribbler system. Small stream at each point and I only run it a few minutes while I watch.

We use a 1/2" line and put hundreds of emitters on it. Maybe the 3/16" just isn't enough. A Rainbird, Toro or Hunter irrigation supplier will have everything you need. There will also be different emitters (1 gallon/hour,2 gph, etc.) so you can fine tune your setup. We use drip a lot for landscaping. Waters only the plant, doesn't encourage more weeds by watering the whole area and saves a bunch of water. Plus, water doesn't go everywhere if it's windy.
