What's the sticker price running on a bale of 16,000 Sasal?

Thinkin' maybe I ought to go get some just in case there happens to be a hay crop this year.

Also, when I try to save money and don't tie the bales, they always have a tendency to fall apart on me. :>)

'Course, I guess the first order of business is to see if I can even find that old baler.

Know I left it parked out there in the grass somewhere. :>(

36.00 regular price around here. Seen it on sale for 30 a couple weeks ago.

If you can't find the baler due to the grass would that not mean its time to cut?

We are finally working on some of first cutting now about 3 weeks late due to the rain around here. I don't know if Iowa will even have hay when it quits raining.

40 degrees here as we speak. Makes for a real slow growth with the nights so cool.

Hope to maybe get the haying done by the 4th of July. :>(

Bought a couple of bales yesterday for $34.50 from Vermeer dealer. Good hay crop in southern Missouri.

I got some on sale first of May. Co-op had it for 29.95 by the bale or 26.95 by the pallet.

Done haying by the 4th of July? I need to move west a ways! When I was a kid and grandad was in charge, we'd wait 'till the 5th of July to start haying. Usually got done by the first of September. And we'd quit at 6PM sharp every day and no haying on Sundays.

Nowadays, we start mowing about the third week of June and go straight through, dawn till dark, seven days a week(weather permitting) 'till about the last week of September. Of course, now, we put up hay for a few neighbors too, plus we've added more land of our own. The hay we put up last summer was seven separate ranches in 1971, now it's four(three actually since we lease one of 'em).

Back then the hay crew was about 6 or 7 guys, now it's dad, my brother, myself, and usually one extra.

Funny how modern "labor and time saving" equipment has somehow resulted in less free time! But as long as things aren't broken down, that A/C is pretty nice- during those hot summer days there's not many better places to be...
