How To Keep Mice Off Of Orchardgrass Seed

I've got 6 50lb. bags of grass seed down in the hayshed and I want to keep it as mouse-free as possible. I don't have any containers big enough and I can't afford to go buy some. I've heard of cayenne pepper, but it would take an awful lot of cayenne pepper to cover those big bags. Any ideas? Thanks!

Try using powdered sulphur. I believe you can get it from any farm supply store or even a druggist. Used to work for us years ago. Just sprinkle it over and around the bags.

Mix corn meal and plaster of paris about half and half and put it so they eat that first. Maybe put a very shallow pan of water near also.

We use moth balls to protect seed corn, and it has worked pretty good. We have just scattered them among the pallets/bags, but only planned to keep them for a few months during the spring. For longer periods, I would purchase/get big trash bags, tub liners would be even better, and put the grass seed bags in these bags along with the moth balls.

those large plastic garbage cans work quite well. Haven't bought one for awhile but surely those would be within your budget?
