backhoe price

Have been bouncing around the idea of getting a backhoe to do some minor off and on work around my own yard only. It will be used on a Ford 801 diesel. (about 45 hp)
I have rented in the past but having to reserve in advance; schedule time off work; and take a chance it does not rain just before hand has been a problem.
Well on a trip to town today I saw a 3 point backhoe on the side of the road. Sign says make offer but I have no idea what something like this is worth.
Looks like it will need some work as most cylinders are rust pitted and some of the hoses look like they may leak.
Most likely worth a few hundred as scrap but just do not know where to start at.
It has a PTO pump so I assume it has on board hyd sump. The digger sticks look to be about 5 to 6' long so it should dig about 10 ft. I took a picture of the model # but it did not come out. I think it said model 11_ _. I could go look again if that makes a differance.
Please give me some pointers.

Figure how much it would be worth to you, assuming it needs nothing. Subtract half that for 'stuff' to make it work right. Make offer? Greg

Looks like a Long. The A-frame where the stabalizers , stick and seat all attach is the oil resevoir. Rusty, pitted cylinders are common on these machines. They will dig 8-10 ft deep, but they are not fast. If you intend to patch a few drains, put in the odd water line, etc. they are O.K. and much more fun than a "mexican" backhoe, but don't expect to go out digging basements with it. I would value it at about $7-800.

Those Long backhoes bring $2000 to $4000 around here.

This one maybe a little less cause of the cylinders.

If you buy it polish those cylinders with fine emery cloth and steel wool before sucking them in.
Would probably still work along time if you do.

Dont know value but if you purchase it get some emry paper an polish an clean cyl rods before you move it.

Sold a Keely back hoe a few years ago for a friend. He got $750 out of it. He had it on a Jubilee but broke a rear axle so we took the back hoe off and sold it and then the tractor later. 3 point back hoes are very hard on the 3 point systems and because of that your 3 point may not work well after having a back hoe mounted to it. Seriously, put it on a scale and weigh it. Scrap is worth about 150/tonne here right now. It needs several new cylinder rods, most hoses, possibly a new pump and probably a valve bank if you only knew it...
The tag says Long, but Long was never noted for building anything. They imported or had built for them... and that appears very much to be a Power Arm, built by F.W. McConnell in England.
Let the chinamen have it, please.

Here's a factory mount for a ford tractor with a hoe

I have similar 4 pt mount that is flanged up to the loader frame after the pillow block under the axle. You can tell this tractor had a hoe on it, loader frame was broke in several places, still need to weld the tab on the rear end for the top link hardware, I think these full frame mounts are fine, but you have to remember what it is, don't think who ever had this 850 was cognizant that it's a light set up.

That unit looks light enough, wide bucket though, narrow might work better with the power behind it. Cylinders might polish up so you don't score the seals, then keep em retracted so they don't rust again. If it goes cheap, pto pump, hoses and a mount could be on the shopping list for starters, valve spool too.....

I just saw one like that in as bad or good condition, (however you want to look at it, LOL) go for $850.00.
There are several manufacturer's selling smaller versions of that hoe for around $3,000.00 new.
I sure would like to find one worth fixing at a reasonable price, good luck .

When I see there something and its make an offer. If I don't honestly know what its worth, I say what do you need to get for that, most of the time they give a number, then you can start from there. Some people get feelings hurt or they think they sh*t out a diamond if you start on the lowball.

I own the same model,(many years) spent $600 dollars last summer rebuilding all of the cylinders. Shafts were not pitted, but rings dried out with out use and would not seal. Works very good again, just something to consider when making an offer. Good Luck.
