She's getting closer.

The Coralville Reservour is getting closer to my property and the top of the spillway by the hour.

In the first picture I am standing at the line between the Government property and my property. In 1993 when it went over the spillway the water got onto about 40 acres of ours.

The second picture is the road past my house. The river is normally about 100 yards wide. The hill in the background is 3 miles away and the water is right at the base of that hill.

Gary, our concern and prayers go out to the farmers as this must be as trying of spring as you can have. I follow the weather and farming costs and risks pretty close and I know the stress from being there in the past. Try to get away from it for a few days if you can be gone and it does help but farming is legalized gambling for real big time. We have had a tough spring here in the NW and costs are eating all profits away from all businesses including farming here. Plus we don't know if the sun still shines cause we have not seen it for so long. Take care of your self and health. I may come to visit this fall if things improve some. Migraine

You do have a boat.
Flooding is the most difficult disaster because it is slow and unstoppable. Setting a spillway higher than the surrounding territory is bizarre.
Best of luck, Jim

They will close Hi-Way 30 [4 lane]west of Boone Ia. this afternoon. Was only supposed to happen once in a hundred years after the construction of Salorville resorvoir. This is the 3rd time since the early 80's.

Gary,

TV news said Iowa City was in danger of flooding. Daughter is moving up there this week. She is buying a house on the South side of the river. Guess this will be a good test of whether the house is on safe ground.

i can really sympathize with you guys. we had a 500 year flood in 2006. the river took all our silage corn (90 acres) and 20 acres of grass. our flood was june 27-29, so by the time it dried out enough to replant, the corn didn't even make it to milk stage.

I am at Marengo Gary. We made about 8,000 sand bags tonight to close up the levy where the roads go through. Don't know if we will need them or not. Seem like it rains everyday. Are you on the south or north side of the Iowa River? andy
