Anyone here have any alpacas. We are looking to buy a couple of males to sheer each year. The females cost way to much to consider right now. I am going to put up a fence soon and was thinking about using metal T post and wood post. I have heard that they like to rub against the fence. Do the T post like you would buy at TSC or agir-supply hold up to this use. The aminals usually dont weigh more than 200 lbs. I think some of the T post are made cheaper and will bend. I will put the T post in a 2-3 run between the wood post. Any thoughts would be great.
I will be using 2x4 horse wire 48 inches tall.

We have sheep and llamas. Fenced in by woven wire stock fence. 4' high, closer mesh on the bottom. Wooden posts every 30', and two "T" posts in between, which means a post every ten feet. "T" posts are 7 1/2 feet, sunk about 3' deep. Posts have not been the problem. Sheep will rub up against fence until they have it stretched beyond belief. Llamas will reach through the fence to try to graze every blade of grass they can reach. Again fences are stretched beyond belief. How those llamas get their heads thru the fence is beyond me! Be sure your corner posts are very well secured and braced.

My neighbor has several hundred of those things. The fence you describe will work out fine. The small hole will pevent them sticking their heads through to eat the other side. If alpacas are the only grazers in the pasture, be sure and have a way to get a tractor and mower in there because they won"t clean it up. Multiple pastures and rotation grazing is even better.

Questions for you. Are you processing the wool yourself? Do you have other animals that you sheer?

We will be sheering ourselves once we learn how. Right now we have someone else that has done it before and they are going to teach us how to do it. These are the only animlas we will have on the farm for now. I dont have a lot of open pasture but I can support 5-10 Alpacas with what I have.
Thanks for your response.
