Tire lube for mounting

Just wondering what everyone uses for lube to mount rear tires. I've used canola oil and have had great sucess. Mounting 8 tires with no problems. Anyone else have a favorite lube?

You really had to ask! Old motor oil for 30 years or so. When I worked for GM all pipefitters that rebuild cyls and went to factory schools used motor oil. Always heard it destroys rubber but also helps keep rust off rim which will cause leak.

Any oil can/will soften the rubber and that in the long run causes tires to fail and when they do its not pretty. There a few things made just for tire mounting. Murphy's is the best known but also good old dish soap works well. Some tire company's will no honor a warranty on a tire if they find oil has been used to mount them.

We use either Murphys tire lube or tire mounting paste. Vegetable oils like your canola work real good and I would suggest them for something off the shelf. Should stay away from water based soaps and petroleum oils.

We use the nearest bottle of Crisco Vegetable oil that turned rancid from too many years under the sink.

We use gasoline, if it's a tubeless tire then to seat the bead all you have to do is clip the line on the valve stem and strike a match.

Also have had really good luck with PB Blaster.

Murphy's works good but we never have any of that in the shed.
