Roundup alternative

Looking for a granular chemical put down with a push spreader I can use on a city lot (50x125) to have a total kill of all grass and weeds.
Do not have access to water so a spray is out of the question. Worried about drift to the neighbors lot also with a spray.

Any Ideas????????????
Was thinking about using salt IF that will work.

Pramitol 25G is the herbicide of choice when it comes to scorched earth weed control. Be fore warned that the stuff is soluble and will move with rain water, and move and move and move.

Roundup is still the chemical of choice for your application, not having a residual should be a bigger issue than drift.

Hyvar, Krovar and Sierra are a few other right of way chemicals that you should study the labels on to see if they fit your situation.

Yes residual is a very big issue I did not think about. I need/would like a total kill of a select area but ANY kill outside the area from run off or overspray would be very bad.

I recon I could try to rent a pull type tank sprayer and bring the water in with me.
Would love to just spray it with roundup with a hose end sprayer but that is not a option.

If I understand right, the lot is 50 feet X 125 feet?

That is easily sprayed with a 2 1/2 gallon sprayer.

I have sprayed thousands of acres using only 15 gallons per acre.

50 X 125 is only .14 acre. That would require 2.1 gallons of water.

Dont pump up the sprayer real tight, that will keep the pressure low. Open the adjustable tip up so the spray is coarse droplets, not a mist. Hold the wand low and spray downwards. Drift will not be an issue unless it is real windy, then just dont spray when it is windy.

You probably can't get atrazine unless you have an applicators permit. But I mix a little atrazine in with roundup and dont have to worry about grass or weeds for the rest of the summer.

I even use this around tombstones at a cemetary I oversee.

Atrazine will wash down hill if you put on too much or it rains hard right away.

I put 2-3 ounces of standard Roundup per gallon of water. I use 2-3 ounces of liquid Atrazine per gallon. A few ounces of surfactant per sprayer full helps, but is not necessary.

Good luck Gene

PS you can also do this with Roundup alone, you just need to do it several times a summer as without the Atrazine you do not have a residual control, you just kill what the spray touches.

Go to the local hardware, Lowes, or Home Depot and buy one of the 2 gallon hand held pump sprayers for $10 or $15 and spray it. One tank full should be close to enough, but you could bring a couple of gallons of extra water for the just in case. Quick, easy and you don't have to mess around with renting something.

Pramitol will do the job. But it kills for about a year. Forget about replanting anytime soon. And Pramitol is pricey.

Thanks for the help.

In my mind I was thinking gallons and gallons of water to cover the area to a total wet grass state. But from reading the lable 1 gallon of roundup covers 1000 sq ft. Even if I cover at double this rate making sure I get good coverage; that is only 12.5 gallons of water per lot.
While I have 4 lots to do; I can do 1 at a time and carry that much water with me.

That must be prediluted Roundup. Typical application is 28-32 ounces per acre (43560 sq. ft.) in 10-15 gals. of water. You are only .14 acres so adjust accordingly.

no consitrate

3 oz per gallon of water per 1000 sq ft.

So my 6250 sq ft should take 6.2 gallons of mixed product. Since it is tall and I am afraid of not getting total coverage I may increase to 12.5 gallons of mix per lot.

But that brings up another question....
Lable says 3 oz per gallon and 1000 sq ft.
If I mix it at a rate of 3 oz per 2 gallons of water and still only cover 1000 sq ft am I doing just as good or should I mix per lable and put down double.
My reasoning is I can know I am getting good coverage by seeing wet grass blades. I do not want to do a area half way and have to do it again.

1 of the lots has weeds and johnson grass about 4' tall so I may have to cut it first to get good coverage.

John,
I'm getting more confused as I read this; with your figures (3oz. per 1000sq.ft.) I would need slightly more than a gal per acre (43.56 times your area and amount) so I don't think it is concentrate. And by mixing 3 oz. in 2 gal you are reducing the label rate, you need to add 6oz to 2 gal to get label amount. The label should give a maximum size for treated weeds sounds like they might be to tall to have the spray work well.

"I would need slightly more than a gal per acre"

You are the only one that brought up or used ACRE.

Lable says 3 oz per gallon of water per 1000 sq ft. So for 6200 sq ft I need 6.2 gallons of mixed spray.

Since I seem to put down spray heavy because I like to see all leaves wet to know I have good coverage and do not feel 1 gallon will do this over 1000 sq ft; can I.........
Mix 3 oz per 2 gallons of water and still put this over 1000 sq ft.

In other words.......
As long as I am putting down 3 oz of consitrate per 1000 sq ft does it matter how much water I use???

Yes I feel the 1 lot will need to be cut before spraying since it is tall.

Lot of miscommunication; NO putting 3 oz per 2 gallons is HALF recommended rate, if you are using 2 gallons of water you need 6 ounces of roundup and YES as long as you are getting 3 oz of roundup per 1000 sq ft you can use as much or little water as you want. The only point I had about one acre is that your roundup is not as concentrated as what we typically use.
