Electric motors and golf carts

This may be a false analogy, but I think it should be close enough. I'm working on my man lift/cherry picker. The batteries are wired up as a 24V system. It has an electric motor underneath with an electric braking system on it, tied directly to a differential.

Now what I want to know is, how do electric golf carts work? Is there any way I can thjumper it together with a couple jumper cables to make the motor run without fussing with the controller?

Only if you want to go one speed - FAST!

Used to work for an automotive remanufactuer. Bos was an avid glofer, also wanted the fastest cart on the course. We rebuilt a number of starter motors he burned up in that thing!

Golf carts use an electronic controller for the motor. There is a potentiometer on the gas pedel that tells the controller how fast to run the motor. The controller runs about $350.

Is your controler bad? or are you trying to test the motor? what controler do you have?I may have some parts

The boards and stuff are all 100% GE but so old GE doesn't have info on those part #s anymore. The previous owner busted the big relays/dc contactors so the motor wouldn't move it. Then when they found out the motor has a brake on it they took the U-joint out so they could push it around with a forklift.

Right now I just want to make the motor spin so I know it isn't fried before I go spending lots of money on the electronics.

I built as electric pick up and really need an eletrict controller. can you help me with your knowledge???
