need advice on tractor to buy

Hello,

I am looking to buy a tractor and need advice on what to buy. I will be using it for mostly the belt power to run a thresher and other belt implements on my farm, but will occasonally disc or other draft work. I have another modern tractor with a loader.
I was thinking that something like a farmall H would do the trick, but I really think that I would like to get a diesel or tractor that used multiple types of fuel. I have a friend that set up his older diesel tractor to run on waste fryer oil, and I was thinking, with the price of fuel, I might do the same.
Any suggestions? I'm open to all makes and models that are easy to get parts for.

thanks

some of the Farmall Hs where set up to do the dual fuel set ups but you need to know what to look for. Also a good number of the older JDs where also like that. Most of them are pretty easy to tell by the fact they have 2 fuel tanks, but if some one has switch manifold and or carbs then they still may not be set up to run that way. I have a JD-B that will run on a number of different fuels

find a 730 or 830 JD diesel they run cheap and more than enough power for any belt or pto work

A farmall H would be a bit small for what you are talking about an M would do what you are talking about OK. The deisel version is an MD with very few of them, I am thinking but don't know for sure but I think the belt pully setup would be the same for a 400-450 as for an M and where you would like to have a deisel they would be better. For a non profesional belt user do not get a Deere, Moline or AC as those belt pullys do not shift out of gear, Deere & Moline runs all the time, AC you have to do it with a set screw acording to this board. You need a pully that is not running as you try to hook up and that just by moving a lever you can shift the pully in gear. Also do not get a wide front end as on some and with different implements the belt will either run against & cut into the tire or against the front axle and either throw or destroy the belt. Oliver 77 & 88 if the pully has a disenguage would be good, same with a Massey Harris 44. Deisels were avaible in both the Olivers and Massey

My U Moline you could not shut off the pully, the only time the pully would stop was when the clutch was disenguaged and tractor not moving. Enguage the clutch and pully would start running.
