Budweiser is wanting to sell to a foreign company and now the CSX railroad is thinking about selling out to a foreign company also. What is next? It just makes me mad that we are loosing control of out country. Its getting harder to find products made in the USA. I know a lot of you are thinking, "stop complaining and accept it".
I feel a little bit better now, but not much.
What are your thoughts or ideas.

the only thing permanent is change itself. it may not be what we like or want, but sadly it's here to stay. if we all could look back and relive all american history we would see a lot of changes, some good and some not so good. i'm like you in that i don't like what is see happening to america in these troubled times.

I know this is all out of my reach or control, but I like being in control of my surroundings and I feel like I (we) have lost control. Oh-well, just my 2 cents worth again.

Change happens MOST of the time 'cause of greed (money) People that are happy with themselves don't change much or are reluctant to alot of change. Look at the Amish. Now do you see people running to covert to their way of life and religion. But everybody (almost) agrees it's an honorable lifestyle. I'd rather it wasn't sold to out of country people but I don't drink Bud and don't use the railroad either.
Sad,indeed 'cause we live with these greedy bastards.
Don

When your government spends $9-10 trillion it doesn't have and people buy a trillion dollar a year more imported goods than we export other people wind up with a lot of dollars to spend.
The idiots we keep electing are even starting to sell critical national infrastructure.Several toll roads have been sold to international companies with more to follow.
Doesn't help that a used to cost a dollar.
Now it is $1.60 for a euro.

If you read history, we are doing many of the same things that the RomanEmpire did just before it's collapse. They were trying to fight everyone's battles all over the known world, trying to take care of everyone's troubles. Getting into financial troubles. Many of the same things we are doing. You go to China or Japan and try to buy part of their infrastructure or a company and see how far you get. Most countries, except this one try to protect treir workers jobs.

You're gonna get me started. Nearby Indiana "sold" the Indiana toll road for a long term deal. I think the tolls are at least double now. Indiana governor Daniels? bragged lately about a "surplus" in the budget. (most of it through that deal) Kind of like we've given away the Panama Canal. In recent years Rush Limbaugh's bragged about our nation's "great economy"-- while we're giving away the store. Sure, there should be some extra money right now, but wait til the baby boomers retire- the govn'ts already gone through their retirement "trust fund".

MikeinKy nailed it. All empires go through the same cycles. First idealism next building then predation of any value, then finally downfall. We're nearing the end of the predatory stage.

Limbaugh's getting paid big money for his comedy act so his economy is great.
The current federal debt works out to $30,000 for every American citizen.$12,000 of which was added by nnalert that promised smaller government.
Unfortunately social security benefits won't be worth much soon.

Don't forget that they were invaded by the "barbaians" from thr north. That Deluted their culture and they used them in the army, which didn't work too good. That reminds me, of some things going on here.

As if we needed MORE proof of the steady decline, while I was out for lunch I ran in to an old friend who"s a recruiter for the US Army. He had to show me his new Army issued vehicle.

A KIA Sorento suv. (made in S. Korea)

According to some pundits the debt owed by individual Americans is a lot higher than the $30,000 when you include entitlements not counted with the "official" national debt, such as the national debt doesn't include social security obligations, along with others.

As far as these infrastructure deals, they can be good for us. Foriegn capital built the US, from the revolutionary war on. We might not have won that war except for the french supplies, troops, ships, and MONEY. Foriegn capital helped build the railroads. Budweiser is having problems competing with little microbreweries cropping up all over. Now the deficit and a very expensive war ( maybe 30B per month) are gonna put our grandkids in hoc. Deficits would be much better building infrastructure that strengthens the economy long term. My 2c.

we have only been a country for 200+ years, we were on top for quite some time, now comes are down fall some time we will be back on top again but not for many years, grab hold and hang on to what you have good luck everyone !!!! my dollars worth or 2 cents

Defense and Social Welfare do not contribute to long term economic growth. They're things we can afford due to previous long term growth.

While most Federal spending is level or decreasing...both Defense & Welfare is growing at 20%. That's a big problem with our federal spending -- it's growing in places that don't help us grown.

Just read an atricle that said because of the "weak" dollar we're now getting business from foreign companies because it's cheaper to do thwe work here than in their home country where the costs of everything is going up. I think we've gone a long ways away from what we once were as a country and a super power but in the end I think it'll all work itself out.

Just saw that crude oil's up over the $10 limit for one trading session, up something around $10.60 to around $138.50, up 44% this year and could be $150 before July 4.

Depends on what you call social welfare. Money spent on education I think is money well spent. Currently the state of Michigan spends more on prisons than higher education. If we had more spending on roads, bridges, rail systems - mass transit anyone?, we would have enough people employed that a lot of the social problems would go away. I believe it was Walter Reuther who said " the best social program is a good paying job."

Education is education.

Social Welfare = Social Security, Medicare/Medicaid, Food Stamps, Disability, Unemployment, etc.

Not saying it's all bad, but you have to watch the costs.

And I don't have much tolerance for people who work the system, whether it's welfare moms...or the people who hire lawyers and make sure gram & gramps gift away all their assests to them so Medicare pays for their nursing home.

That is very true and the USA has sown abortion, drinking, corrupt politicians, greed, strip clubs and immoral behavior in general. It is so unfortunate that the USA will not turn to God instead of to its leaders (who are crooked) to solve social/economic/family problems.

We are supposed to turn to who? Corrupt, lying preachers who build Mega churches and luxury lifestyles for themselves and families? There is little difference between a corrupt politician and a corrupt preacher. In fact the are the same!

It's a kinda tough read but the book "Wealth and Democracy" tells the whole story pretty well, I think. As time has gone by several great nations "had their days in the sun and then faded"
Spain, Holland, Great Britan etc. all at one time led the world in many ways but eventually "petered out". Now the same things they did that led to their demise are being done by our USA......it doesn't look too good for us. We need some wise leadership to stop the wealthy from carrying away all the money and misusing the power the money gives them. The people no longer have any voice in our political system, the wealthy run the whole show and it's killing us.

Wow as long as we're freaking out, how about $1000. Anybody want to go for $2000. There is always someone that wants to point out gloom & doom and there seems to many of them on this board!!

So in essence, what you are saying is that all those patriotic businessmen who sacked their AMERICAN workforce, sold the factory and moved to China or Mexico so as to export back to the US for a bigger profit ,will now be moving back home? Cause for a "welcome home" street parade.

What about the illegal MEXICANS that get welfare and food stamps and pay into nothing... Government legalized theft...Time for our government to step to the plate and make some huge changes..I dont mind paying my share of taxes...but I hate paying knowing there are people coming here living on us for free...

AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! most folks have no idea how much that is costing us!

That was right on the money! The best social program is a good paying job.It also needs to keep up the pay with the cost of living. We sure need education, not brain washing that kids get now.Infrastructure is important, mass transit. It would help to keep the crooks out of it this time. The only way to do it is throw lots of the crooks out that are in office now.

While that may be true, just how do you say that, and just let ours fall, and justify it?Either you fight to keep this one floating every day,or you dont deserve to live in it.The past is the past, and we dont know or even understand the future.I dont think the alternative of anarchy,or a dark age of times in the past will compare to the downfall of America. We were the best that ever was,and it will be a sad day for freedom if we do fall. The basis of our civilization, the Magna Carta is way older than 200 years old.Lots of people lived in a bad situation,slavery,40 years old was an elderly person for thousands of years. You dont want to go very far backwards or it will be unimaginable compared to life now, everywhere in the world.Since crooks like the way it is for the most part,I doubt the whole world ever gets so bad again, but this time we can certainly ruin the world to where its not fit for anything that we know of can live on it.Thats a far cry from any time in the past, even 100 years ago.You dont want to live in a world that is that dumb,no matter how hard evil tries to make it dumber.
This is at the very least,a unique time, and has the potential for great things to happen, not negative ones.No time anybody ever heard of on this planet has had such good times, and sadly such poverty as well.
Its kind of unfair to dismiss us,and our country, and way of life with an answer like yours, even if its true, which its not. There comes a time when you just have to stop believing the propaganda and try and see that things get better. If you dont try,and your kids are in a country thats worse than communist, who do you blame for it.Ultimately you look in the mirror and see who it is that has the opportunity to make a different outcome from the past.Unless you have some crystal ball that tells you all this, and its futile, and we are doomed, your only choice is to fight every day to keep it from happening like that so your kids have a better life than you.Anything less than that is just a lie.

Look into the past and all of these problems were rampant in the 1800's -1900's. A little experiment called prohibition turned out to be a astounding failure leading to the rise of organised crime. Is America supposed to sit around and wait for a sign from above or turn to the professional God-botherer's who preach from their mega church's grubbing for money at every turn.
No thanks, I'll do what I know what is right, try and buy American made products (if I can find some) and pay close attention to who is running for elected office (both local and national)
